Postdoctoral Associate Positions at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy

A postdoc position is available in Dr. Qihao Wu’s lab in the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences at the University of Pittsburgh. Dr. Wu will join the School of Pharmacy as an Assistant Professor on February 1, 2025.

The lab focuses on applying chemistry and biotechnology approaches to decode distinct xenobiotic metabolism by the human gut microbiota and understand how these metabolic processes impact host physiology. The lab works at the interface of analytical chemistry, natural products chemistry, chemical biology, and multi-omics to:

  1. Explore unconventional chemical interactions between the human gut microbiota and xenobiotics, including drugs and dietary chemicals.
  2. Identify microbial enzymes responsible for xenobiotic metabolism.
  3. Investigate the impact of microbial biotransformations on xenobiotic bioactivity in tissue culture and mouse models.

Successful candidates should have a Ph.D. in medicinal or organic chemistry and a high level of self-motivation. Candidates with computational experience are preferred.

We are seeking an individual with the following expertise and qualifications:

  • expertise in mass spectrometry-based metabolomics analysis is required
  • experience with protein heterologous expression and in vitro enzymatic reactions is desirable
  • skills in multistep chemical synthesis, such as chemical probe design, are required.
  • must have demonstrated independent ability to design and execute experiments, prepare figures of results, analyze & interpret those results, and present them in a professional scientific manner
  • individual must have experience in performing literature searches and can assist with scientific writing (manuscripts and grant proposals); meticulous record-keeping of research work is required
  • effective verbal and interpersonal skills are also necessary; individuals may be required to assist and guide graduate students and other post-docs in the lab.
