The Travis Brown laboratory has an opening for a junior postdoctoral position for an NIH-funded research programs. We are specifically welcoming applications from highly motivated individuals with interest in understanding the mechanism of actions of neurotrophic factors, such as leptin, and their effects on synaptic function and development, and who have demonstrated expertise in cellular/molecular neuroscience and proficiency in, or interest in learning electrophysiological techniques.
The Department of Integrative Physiology and Neuroscience (http://ipn.vetmed.wsu.edu/) is an academic unit of the Washington State University College of Veterinary Medicine (https://wsu.edu/). International neuroscience faculty within the department form highly collaborative research units that study synaptic function, development, ingestive behavior, stress, substance abuse, and sleep neurobiology. Thus, the candidate will have ample opportunities for collaboration and co-mentoring. Furthermore, the department offers baccalaureate and doctoral degree programs in Neuroscience, in addition to postdoctoral training. The department is housed in an award-winning, ultra-modern BSL-2 research facility on the Pullman campus of Washington State University, and it is equipped with state-of-the-art microscopy, imaging, electrophysiology, cell biology, and behavioral testing equipment.
Summary of Duties:
Interests - cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying control of synaptic function and development, with an emphasis in the role of neurotrophic factors, such as leptin
Techniques - patch clamp electrophysiology, molecular techniques, pharmacology and use of mouse models
Required Qualifications:
Recent Ph.D. in neuroscience or in another relevant field (e.g., physiology, biology).
Evidence of strong background, experience and research productivity in the biomedical sciences.
Excellent writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications:
An interest in cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying control of synaptic function and development, with an emphasis in the role of neurotrophic factors, such as leptin.
Experience in patch clamp electrophysiology, molecular techniques, pharmacology and use of mouse models.

Annual Salary:
$63,000
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.

Temporary End Date:
This is a temporary position expected to end on June 30, 2026. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.
