Summary of Duties:

Under the direction of the Yakima Ext. SNAP-Ed Program Manager, the Yakima SNAP-Ed Program Coordinator is responsible for the implementation of culturally sensitive and inclusive nutrition education and Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) interventions for SNAP-Ed qualifying audiences in Yakima County. This includes facilitating basic nutrition and wellness related classes; coordinating, implementing, and monitoring program activities that directly relate to Policy, Systems, and Environmental (PSE) nutrition and physical activity outreach; and evaluating programs by collecting applicable data and reporting on the progress of each program area. The Yakima SNAP-Ed Program Coordinator position also builds relationships with the community and works closely with other SNAP-Ed staff, Extension staff, and community partners to build obesity prevention programming for qualifying audiences in Yakima County. This position ensures that all activities meet the needs of the local community and are appropriate within SNAP-Ed and WSU guidance.



Required Qualifications:




  • A Bachelor's degree in a relevant extension program discipline and two (2) years of related program experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.




  • Washington State Food Handler's Permit, or able to obtain one within 30 days of hire.




  • Must have, or be able to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver's license and meet requirements in accordance with SPPM 7.10 and departmental driving standards.




  • While using a private or WSU‐owned vehicle for official business, must have current automobile liability insurance (meeting the requirements described in RCW 46.30.020 and RCW 46.29.090).




  • Ability to work a flexible, yet structured schedule with occasional night and weekend shifts to meet the needs of program partners and grant requirements.




  • Employment is contingent upon passing a background screening.







Preferred Qualifications:




  • Experience in community outreach, nutrition, physical activity, or other related field.




  • Demonstrated ability with communication and interpersonal skills, including demonstrated ability to work effectively with a wide variety of adults and youth, including low-income, drug/alcohol recovery patients, and many others.




  • Experience working with diverse cultures, genders, sexual identities, religions, etc.




  • Experience in English/Spanish bilingual/bi-cultural spoken language with youth and adults.




  • Demonstrated ability to work constructively in both a team environment and independently, especially in the development of innovative projects.




  • Demonstrated ability to organize and use time effectively.




  • Experience maintaining records of work activities and preparing reports.




  • Experience creating and managing partnerships within a community.

Monthly Salary:


$3,120.70 - $3,463.20 | Zone 2, Grade 3 | Prorated to 80% FTE



In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Temporary End Date:


This is a temporary position expected to end on September 30, 2025. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.



Funding has been renewed successfully for several years and we expect funding to continue to be renewed.
