The Opportunity:


The Meehan Lab in the Department of Anthropology at Washington State University (WSU) has a Postdoctoral Scholar position available for a full-time, twelve-month fixed-term appointment located in Pullman, WA with the potential for remote work. At the intersection of social and biological sciences, the Meehan Lab is studying human milk composition and its associations with mother-infant environments, including the relationship between and among cannabis use during lactation and holistic human milk composition and infant development.



This is a one-year position. It is anticipated that the successful candidate will begin the appointment on January 1, 2025. Renewal depends on satisfactory performance, the continued need for the position, and funding continuation.



The successful candidate is expected to:




  • Conduct analysis for an NIH-funded project focused on characterizing and comparing multi-omics human milk data and investigate associations between and among milk cannabinoid concentrations, substance use patterns, selected maternal characteristics, and milk proteome, metabolome, and lipidome profiles




  • Contribute to and lead co-authored papers




  • Present work at a national and/or international meeting




  • Assist with managing a research team




  • Mentor undergraduate and graduate students working on the project.






Required Qualifications:




  • PhD at time of hire




  • Demonstrable skills in oral and written communication (including a publication record). A background in at least two of the following is required: 1) multi-omics approaches, 2) milk composition; 3) quantitative analyses, and 4) cannabis/cannabinoids.






Preferred Qualifications:




  • Skilled at working both as an independent researcher and as part of a research team.




  • Previous engagement in interdisciplinary research.

Annual Salary: $65,000.00 - $75,000.00 | In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.

Temporary End Date: This is a temporary position expected to end one year from begin date. Renewal is dependent on the need for extension and/or if additional funding is secured to extend employment.

The Department of Anthropology is an academic unit located in the College of Arts and Sciences. Anthropology's 18 faculty conduct research, support courses and mentorship, and provide service at WSU's campuses in Pullman, Vancouver, and the Tri-Cities. The department offers the BA at WSU's Pullman and Vancouver campuses, and to its Global campus, and teaches courses in support of a minor and certificate in American Indian Studies. Partnering with the School of Biological Sciences, we also offer a BA in Human Biology at Pullman and Vancouver. With faculty specialties and graduate degree tracks in cultural anthropology, evolutionary anthropology and archaeology, the department offers the M.A. and Ph.D. in anthropology in each of these areas of emphasis, supporting a graduate program with approximately forty students.
