BASIC FUNCTION
The Senior Accounting Specialist is responsible for various tasks within the Accounting Department which support the monthly reporting of the financial results.
MAJOR ACTIVITIES
1) Regular attendance in the work site.
2) Maintains and reconciles general ledger accounts.
3) Provides accounting/transactional support via telephone and email to the E-branch Department.
4) Prepares and posts daily Accounting entries.
5) Performs other functions within the Accounting Department to support the overall function-which may include providing back-up support for the other Accounting personnel.
6) Compiles, maintains, and validates reports.
7) Responsible for processing return check items.
8) Processes files, incoming and outgoing, including, but not limited to, ACH, Inclearing, Wire Transfers and Catalyst.
9) Reconciles accounts for automated teller machines.
10) Completes weekly accounts payable processing and the related ongoing vendor maintenance.
11) Operates computers programmed with accounting software to record, store, and analyze information.
12) Performs general office duties such as filing, answering telephones, and handling routine correspondence.
13) Operates 10-key calculators, computers, and copy machines to perform calculations and produce documents.
14) Other duties/special projects as assigned.
CRITICAL RESULTS
1) General Ledger entries are accurate and mitigate losses for aged items.
2) Procedures for the Senior Accounting Specialist duties are maintained and other members of the Accounting Department are cross-trained.
3) All activities are efficiently conducted, generally error free, and are completed following the appropriate policies, procedures, operational controls, and compliance controls.
4) Losses, errors, and risks are controlled and mitigated by adhering to all applicable policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
A. Specialized or Technical Knowledge and Skills:
1) High School diploma or the equivalent. Minimum of 2 years accounting experience.
2) Knowledge and understanding of basic accounting principles.
3) Demonstrated ability to work with detail while meeting daily, weekly and monthly deadlines.
4) Strong verbal and written communication skills. Able to effectively communicate with personnel at all levels throughout the organization.
5) Excellent computer skills and experience working with accounting software programs. Strong experience with Excel, Word and a calculator required.
6) Ability to accomplish assignments without close supervision.
7) Ability to use analytical and independent judgment for process improvements and problem resolution.
8) Ability to use independent judgment when performing accounting duties.
