A Day in the Life

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Reliability and Failure Analysis Engineer with a strong background in Physics of Failure (PoF) methodologies. This role involves working at the forefront of reliability engineering, driving improvements in product reliability, and conducting failure analysis to ensure the Reliability of our products.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Develops, coordinates, and conducts technical reliability studies and evaluations of engineering design concepts and design of experiments (DOE) constructs.

  • Recommends design or test methods and statistical process control procedures for achieving required levels of product reliability.

  • Compiles and analyzes performance reports and process control statistics; investigates and analyzes relevant variables potentially affecting products and processes.

  • May develop mathematical models to identify units, batches, or processes posing excessive failure risks.

  • As necessary, propose changes in design or formulation to improve system and process reliability.

  • Apply Physics of Failure (PoF) principles to assess, predict, and enhance product reliability.

  • Conduct root cause failure analysis using various methods, including metallurgical, mechanical, and electrical techniques.

  • Develop and implement reliability test plans, including Mechanical Shock, Vibration, Thermal Cycling etc. and corresponding accelerated life testing.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to integrate reliability principles into product design and manufacturing.

  • Perform statistical reliability modeling and data analysis to drive decisions and continuous improvements.

  • Lead or participate in Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and risk assessment activities.

  • Provide technical expertise to guide reliability improvements across product lifecycles.

  • Generate detailed technical reports, presentations, and recommendations based on findings.

  • Collaborate with suppliers and manufacturing teams to address reliability concerns and ensure compliance with quality standards.

  • Mentor and provide guidance to junior engineers on reliability and failure analysis best practices.

Qualifications

Must-Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Requires a Baccalaureate degree

  • Minimum of 4 years of electrical or mechanical engineering experience or advanced degree with a minimum of 2 years of experience.

Nice to Have


  • Proficiency in advanced failure analysis tools and techniques (e.g., SEM, EDS, XPS, TEM).

  • Experience with engineering software such as R Studios, Python, Weibull++.

  • Knowledge of materials science, including metallurgy, polymers, and ceramics.

  • Familiarity with data acquisition systems and sensor technologies for stress monitoring.

  • Hands-on experience with PCBA and component-level reliability assessments.

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$101,600.00 - $152,400.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance , Health Savings Account , Healthcare Flexible Spending Account , Life insurance, Long-term disability leave , Dependent daycare spending account , Tuition assistance/reimbursement , and Simple Steps (global well-being program).
