Overview
The Master Sommelier is responsible for developing and directing a wine program that adds quality, value and enhances the guest experience. Provide ample and continuous wine training, tasting and education to ensure staff wine knowledge. Ensure appropriate levels of inventory available at all times, with POS systems, menus and wine lists remain accurate and updated. Maintain productive working relationships with vendors and continuously taste, research and remain active in industry trends. Ensures compliance with health, safety, sanitation and alcohol awareness standards and liquor laws.
Qualifications
Bachelor degree or equivalent experience.
5+ years of experience in food and beverage management, hotels preferred.
Ability to interpret financial and operational data into operational plan.
Ability to lead and direct a team.
Strong time management and negotiation skills.
Ability to work extended hours when business necessitates.
Food/Beverage Service Worker Permit, where applicable.
Working knowledge of wine, liquor and inventory methods.
Working knowledge of purchasing.
Working knowledge of financial statements and understanding of beverage cost impact.
Read, write and speak English fluently.
Meet minimum age requirement of jurisdiction.
Ability to communicate effectively with the public and other team members.
