Job Description:

The Marine Helper reports directly to the Marine Supervisor and will perform various marine/industrial functions. The Marine Helper position requires the ability to be able to work aboard ships, climbing, bending, lifting heavy equipment, and working in confined spaces.

Roles and responsibilities

  • Perform a variety of general marine tasks including, but not limited to, lifting and performing various shipboard trades, and other activities in a helping or assisting mode, as directed by the supervisor.
  • May perform simple repairs on machinery, TLI (Tank Level Indicator) systems, and shipboard electrical work.
  • Transport materials, tools, and equipment to and within work sites as required.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to perform general maintenance tasks.
  • Knowledge of relevant tools and equipment.
  • Cleaning and preparing job site.


Education / training requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent

Additional skills

  • Must have physical strength, hand-eye coordination and endurance
  • Ability to understand and communicate information
  • Must understand and be able to complete basic math problems/calculations

Additional requirements

  • Must have a valid driver's license
  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screening test
  • Must be able to successfully pass a background check

Environment

Marine helpers are often required to work outside in all kinds of weather or in conditions without climate control.


Travel

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.


Physical requirements

  • Ability to lift, carry and transport heavy equipment and boxes weighing up to 50lbs up to 8-10 hours per day.
  • Ability to work on and climb ladders and stairs frequently.
  • Bending/squatting/kneeling/stooping/crouching/crawling/twisting up and walking up to 8-10 hours per day.
  • Standing- must be able to stand or sit in one place up to 8-10 hours per day.
  • Hearing- must be able to work in loud environments.
