Pay Rate: $23.00/hr on W2




Job Summary:



Client is seeking a Materials Specialist to join our team in South San Francisco. Under the supervision of the Materials Operations Supervisor, this role is responsible for the accurate receipt, verification, record keeping, distribution, and shipment of materials and goods used in the production and delivery of biopharmaceuticals. The Materials Specialist will play a key role in ensuring the efficient and compliant handling of materials, including the management of hazardous materials, adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and the safe operation of equipment.


This position involves driving Genentech vehicles (vans or bobtail trucks), handling inventory, preparing shipments, and ensuring the timely distribution of materials across the company's facilities.



Key Responsibilities:




  • Material Handling & Documentation:


    • Accept incoming materials, ensuring paperwork is accurate and materials are received in good condition.

    • Prepare receiving and shipping documents, including manifests for hazardous materials.

    • Route receiving information and ensure compliance with storage and temperature requirements.

    • Pack materials for proper shipping conditions and prepare outgoing shipments.

    • Process and receive radioactive materials, applying proper placards and following safety protocols.



  • Inventory Management & Distribution:


    • Manage inventory, ensuring proper sorting and handling of materials for internal distribution.

    • Apply asset tags to capital equipment as needed.

    • Serve as the liaison between customers and warehouse staff, ensuring timely communication and resolution of issues.



  • Safety & Compliance:


    • Independently follow Current Good Manufacturing Practice (cGMP) procedures.

    • Ensure all work is completed by the end of the day and meets GMP standards.

    • Observe all health and safety guidelines, including forklift safety and safe handling of hazardous materials.

    • Ensure cleanliness and organization of work areas and equipment.



  • Driving & Equipment Operation:


    • Operate material handling equipment, including forklifts, safely and appropriately.

    • Drive Genentech vans and/or bobtail trucks on public roads to transport materials between company locations.



  • Communication & Coordination:


    • Communicate clearly, both verbally and in writing, with internal teams and external stakeholders.

    • Meet timeline commitments, inform others of status, issues, and customer requests, and ensure effective workflow.

    • Adapt to schedule changes and work overtime as necessary to meet operational needs.



  • Training & Documentation:


    • Complete training records in a timely manner.

    • Adhere to all Genentech regulations, safety programs, and documentation procedures.





Skills & Qualifications:




  • Required:


    • Valid California Driver's License and clean driving record.

    • Ability to operate material handling equipment safely, including forklifts.

    • Strong attention to detail, ensuring accurate documentation and safe handling of materials.

    • Ability to work independently and follow established procedures with minimal supervision.

    • Proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel for inventory and documentation purposes.

    • Strong organizational and time-management skills.

    • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

    • Experience with packaging equipment and X-ray scanning equipment.



  • Preferred:


    • Forklift certification.

    • Previous experience in warehouse operations, inventory management, and hazardous material handling.

    • Familiarity with GMP documentation and safety compliance procedures.





Physical Requirements:



  • Ability to lift and move materials up to 50 pounds.

  • Regular use of forklifts and other material handling equipment.

  • Ability to drive on public roads and operate Genentech vans and/or bobtail trucks.




Additional Information:



  • This role requires flexibility, as the individual may need to adjust work hours and perform overtime as needed.


  • MVR (Motor Vehicle Record) Check required.
