Location: Johnstown, Pennsylvania
The Humanities Division of the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown is seeking candidates for an adjunct faculty position teaching Public Relations 2 in our Communication program. The successful candidate will have experience teaching courses in Public Relations and an MA in communication or an MBA. The start date for these positions is January 2025. Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to 1. preparing a course syllabus for individual courses in Public Relations 2 in accordance with UPJ standards and guidelines provided by the Humanities Chair; 2. providing well-prepared, appropriately designed, carefully focused classes to college students that help students appreciate various aspects of Public Relations and engage them in active learning environments; 3. informing students of course requirements, evaluation procedures, and attendance requirements; 4. preparing and grading class assignments, essays, and examinations and informing students of their academic progress; 5. maintaining attendance, scholastic, and personnel records and submitting them according to published deadlines; 6. holding regular office hours in accordance with prevailing policy. 7. maintaining knowledge in the subject matter area and effective teaching/ learning strategies; 8. demonstrating appropriate standards of professional conduct and ethics.
Education/Experience: The applicant must possess one of the following qualifications (earned degrees must be from an accredited college/university): 1. Master’s Degree in Communication or an MBA (with a BS in Communication) 2. Demonstrated commitment to student learning and to the success of all students; 3. Ability to motivate and teach college students studying in an assortment of disciplines; 4. Training and/or experience in various aspects of public relations; 5. Commitment to improvement of teaching; 6. Commitment to professional and personal growth through activities such as the practice of writing, participation in conferences or workshops, and/or involvement in other relevant organizations or work; 7. Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a small campus setting that requires involvement and responsibilities from each member; 8. Strong interpersonal skills and collaborative spirit; 9. Recent experience teaching college-level courses; 10. Evidence of teaching effectiveness.
