What you will do:
The Mechanical Engineering Lead will create designs to meet customers' needs, lead product development to meet timelines, support product launches in the plant, and maintain engineering changes of production products. They will also drive the team for results, by working closely with the cross functional launch team, using efficient communication with systems, manufacturing, procurement, and quality.
How you will do it
• Leading the mechanical system design of energy storage devices such as Lithium Ion, Sodium Ion, and Super Capacitors. Direct other engineers in sub-system design with little to no oversight.
• Defining mechanical systems that meet structural and thermal requirements and can be manufactured efficiently using our core processes.
• Interfacing directly with OE customers and propose solutions to meet their needs balanced with Clarios business, engineering, and manufacturing requirements.
• Reviewing and proposing updates to product requirements.
• Specify and approve multiple complex mechanical components and sub-assemblies created by other engineers - including formed metal parts, injection molded rubber/plastic components, bus bars, flex-circuits, connectors, labels
machined/cast metal parts, structural items, fans, fasteners, gaskets, clips, and
other hardware.
• Create, check, and approve 3D CAD and 2D technical drawings of components and assemblies.
• Supporting battery system and sub-system design and development working with a global team of engineers from different disciplines including electrical, systems, thermal, software, manufacturing, and testing.
• Review and approve complete packaging studies for new product development including customer vehicle integration that are created by other team members.
• Providing input and reviewing other engineers FEA and CFD analysis, validation testing, and result interpretation in the areas of vibration durability, mechanical shock, crashworthiness, and general structural engineering.
• Lead other engineers with Design for Manufacturability (DFM) to ensure that the design of components optimizes the manufacturing and assembly process. Ensure that the design of components facilitate handling throughout the product life cycle from shipping through disassembly and recycling.
• Prioritize and perform complete dimensional tolerance stack-ups utilizing GD&T for components and assemblies.
• Own mechanical engineering documentation including DFMEA's, Evaluations, Test Requests, and Test Reports.
• Provides mechanical team input for the creation of test plans (DVP&R) and testing.
• Leading component and system cost reduction road map activities.
• Lead and participate in team meetings to support program development.
• Provide input for product quality through APQP.
• Lead and provide directions in prototype and pre-production assembly builds.
• Lead mechanical engineering efforts required to support customer RFI/RFQ’s
Ownership of entire program includes taking on various roles, at times as needed, to meet program timing.
What we look for:

• Bachelor's in mechanical engineering with minimum 8 years of experience.
• Experience in plastic part design and knowledge of injection molding process.
• SolidWorks 3D Modeling & FEA (CAD) and 2D drawing creation experience.
• Experience with DFMEA, DVP&R, and automotive development tools.
• Understanding of phase gate product development processes.
Preferred:
• Experience interfacing directly with OE customers
• Manufacturing process knowledge and plant environment experience
• Understanding of electrical and thermal engineering
• Vehicle level Battery Systems integration
• Reviewing and working with requirements in JAMA
• Experience with the SAP document management system related to engineering change, material masters, engineering bill of materials and manufacturing bill of materials.
