Job Description:

Sommelier at Safe Harbor Peninsula Yacht Club, you will be responsible for enhancing the dining experience by providing expert wine service, advice, and recommendations to guests. Your knowledge of wine, wine pairings, and the art of wine service will play a crucial role in elevating the guest experience and driving sales. You will work closely with the Food and Beverage team to ensure the wine list remains fresh, relevant, and properly stocked.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Wine Society: Lead our wine society in different tastings and paired wine dinners throughout the season.
Wine Vendors: Work closely with wine vendors to bring new and different wines in for our members. Wine Selection & Pairing: Advise guests on wine selections that complement their meal, and tailor recommendations based on their preferences and menu choices. Wine Service: Ensure proper wine service standards, including opening, decanting, pouring, and serving wine in accordance with established protocols. Wine List: Assist in curating, updating, and maintaining the dining room's wine list, ensuring a balanced and diverse selection that aligns with the dining room's culinary offerings. Wine Education: Provide wine education to staff, assisting in training front-of-house team members on wine offerings, proper service techniques, and upselling strategies. Inventory: Assist with wine inventory, tracking stock levels, and organizing wine storage to ensure the highest standards of quality and safety. Guest Relations: Build rapport with guests, offering exceptional service and ensuring their needs are met. Handle wine-related inquiries and resolve any issues in a professional manner. Sales and Upselling: Encourage wine sales through suggestions, pairing recommendations, and promoting wine specials. Maximize revenue opportunities while maintaining a guest-focused approach. Event Support: Assist in organizing wine-related events, tastings, and wine-pairing dinners, ensuring a memorable and educational experience for guests.
Safety and Environmental Responsibilities
Follow SHM Safety and Environmental rules and complete required related training.Wear proper personal protective equipment as required for the task or work area.Report all accidents, injuries, spills and near misses immediately.
Technical and Physical Requirements
High school diploma or equivalent requiredPrevious experience as a Sommelier, Wine Steward, or in a related role in the hospitality industry preferred.In-depth knowledge of wines, wine regions, varietals, and food pairings. Certification such as Court of Master Sommeliers (CMS), WSET, or similar is highly desirable. Not required. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a passion for delivering exceptional service and creating memorable guest experiences.Ability to manage time effectively, multitask, and stay organized in a fast-paced environment.Ability to stand for long periods of timeAbility to bend, stoop, lift, rotate, reachAbility to lift 50 pounds
