Position Overview
This leadership role will oversee our User Experience Center of Excellence team. This role will provide leadership and expertise innovating and validating the next generation digital experiences for children and adults managing type 1 and type 2 diabetes. This role is critical to setting the company's best in class user research strategy and other innovative methodologies for Insulet's award-winning OmniPod products and digital experiences. Shape the future of user experience with strategic design initiatives that blend business needs and user insights.
This role will work collaboratively with members of the leadership and executive team, designers, marketing, product management and engineering to innovate and translate deep user insights into compelling digital experiences. This requires a unique skillset for strong cross franchise impact and leading multiple disciplines within User experience. This role is also the subject matter expert (SME) for user experience; short-term and long-term growth strategy, lead and direct exploratory user experience research and development, regularly interface with management to ensure research operations reflect overall corporate vision/strategy. This position will ensure all user experience projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with the organization's established policies and objectives.
Responsibilities
Accountable for the user experience strategy for all Insulet's mobile digital products and applications, in partnership with the franchises and in support of the delivery for our business strategy and goals.
Navigate executive level feedback, and drive direction and decisions across franchises to develop a cohesive user experience for Insulet.
Identify emerging trends, technologies, and methodologies to develop and implement a comprehensive UX strategy aligned to Insulet's vision and franchise priorities, shaping the future of user experience that blends business needs and user insights.
Champion the role of user experience across the company and establish UX as a critical innovation partner for product management and technology teams. Ensure user centered design principles are integrated into all stages of product development.
Make key decisions for the UX team that drive the high-level direction, vision, and strategy required to solve business and user needs. Ability to strike the balance of innovation and hard decision making with peers on what is the best UX for the business given constraints and time to market considerations and strategy.
Collaborate skillfully in a complex, matrixed, global organization, working with business unit leaders, and leaders across product, commercial, technology, and agile delivery.
Lead a team of approximately 75 members in UX design, research, instructional design, Human Factors, and content strategy, to deliver unified user experience strategy and execution.
Ensure that best-practices of user-centered design are constantly being enacted by helping them to continuously develop their skills through mentoring, and by planning training, knowledge sharing, workshops and virtual experiences that enable their growth.
Foster a strong and vibrant UX community within the organization, promoting knowledge sharing, mentorship, and professional development.
Establish metrics, guidelines, and templates to improve efficiency, consistency and repeatability of UX practices.
Perform other duties as required.

Education and Experience
Bachelor's in cognitive science, Human Factors, experimental psychology, HCI, interaction design or other discipline; MBA preferred.
4+ years' experience with the integrations of physical devices and Software in a consumer or medical space.
12+ years' experience managing and leading user experience including design and research in a technology-centered company, preferably in the medical devices industry, matrix leadership experience preferred.
18+ years' experience in total and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Demonstrated experience building and leading large global user experience teams (70-100 employees) with multiple disciplines.
Experience with Human Factors teams.
Experience with medical device product management, with deep knowledge of regulatory and quality requirements globally, preferred.
Healthcare or diabetes experience or knowledge a plus.
Strong leadership and extensive experience leading, coaching and developing User experience and design teams, removing obstacles that block progress. Experience building a high performing team capable of working as members of several product teams.
Has a proven track record of global products that have been launched through their teams with a compelling narrative that demonstrate an ability to address business challenges.
Drive and own design and development of cross-functional, multi-platform applications.

Additional Information
The position can be remote, hybrid or in-person at our Acton, MA Headquarters. The preferred location is near San Diego, CA or Acton, MA.
