NOTICE OF EXAMINATION

ENTRY LEVEL FIREFIGHTER

LATERAL TRANSFER FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC

 

The City of Bucyrus, Ohio will conduct a Civil Service exam for the City of Bucyrus Division of Fire to establish an eligibility list for entry level firefighter.  Starting wage under the present labor agreement is $20.12 per hr./$22.12 per hr. for Medic and increasing to $22.10 per hr./$24.12 per hr. for Medic after two (2) years of service.  The city has a competitive benefits package.  The work schedule is a 53-hr. work week, working 24 hrs. on duty followed by 48 hrs. off duty.

Requirements for Entry Level Firefighter

• Minimum of 18 years of age and no more than 41 years of age at time of original appointment.
• Be a citizen of the United States of America
• Possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid Ohio driver’s license.
• Be in good physical and medical condition and be mentally and emotionally stable.
• Be able to pass an in-depth background investigation.
• Pass all required medical examinations.
• Must be willing to reside within a 20 mile radius of the City of Bucyrus, Washington Square.

Requirements for Lateral Transfer Firefighter/Paramedic

• Must have one year of uninterrupted and continuous completed full-time service for a fire-fighting/paramedic position held immediately prior to accepting employment with the City of Bucyrus.

Sandusky Ave., Bucyrus, Ohio, 44820, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the Bucyrus City Fire Department, 223 E. Mansfield St., Bucyrus, Ohio, 44820 from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. starting Wednesday, July 31, 2024, or by emailing the Bucyrus Fire Department by clicking the APPLY button for an application.  All applications must be returned to the Mayor’s Office only in person by 3:00 p.m. Friday, August 30, 2024.  A photo ID must be shown when returning application.  Applicants claiming extra credit must submit at time of application: for military, a certificate of satisfactory military service or honorable discharge; for Paramedic, EMT-B or FF II an Ohio certification.  Appointees must maintain any certifications already established.      

A physical agility test will be held on Saturday, September 7, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. at Bucyrus High School, 900 W. Perry St., Bucyrus, Ohio.  The Civil Service exam will be held on Sunday, September 8, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Bucyrus City Hall, 500 S. Sandusky Ave., Bucyrus, Ohio, 44820.  The Civil Service exam requires a passing score of 70%.
