As the Lead Cloud Platform Engineer for Data, Analytics & AI in the Life Science Analytics Center of Excellence (ACE), you will be responsible to deliver our best-in-class Data, Analytics and AI platform to all Life Science employees by leveraging the group-wide UPTIMIZE platform with the goal of accelerated use case development. As a lead expert, you will be a role-model for all data scientists, engineers and analysts in ACE and the wider Life Science Sector. In your day-to-day work, you will closely align with your IT counterparts and other leaders in the organization.



Your role:



  • Establishing connectivity blueprints and architectural guidance for bi-directional, secure and performant data flows between all relevant LS systems and UPTIMIZE Foundry.

  • Advising and making direct strategic decisions about platform selection for larger sector-wide initiatives and use cases and executing the implementation of custom platform environments on UPTIMIZE.

  • Providing a best-in-class developer experience and governance model for all data analysts, engineers and scientists within the sector, striving towards giving developers the tools and support they need to be productive and happy.

  • Contribute to the federated ACE engineering practices and moderate the evolution of them. Provide upskilling content for the engineering team on new technologies or platform features.

  • Building sector specific, end-user facing platform tooling.

  • Securing the day-to-day operation of all ingestions and use cases on the platform by being a full-stack technical expert and solving escalations by partnering closely with vendor product development organizations.

  • Bringing in new innovations and technologies into the engineering teams.

This is an exciting role with the potential to leverage technology and creativity to accelerate the efficiency of data, analytics and AI delivery in Life Science, and will be highly visible at all levels of the organization.



Who you are:



  • You have a higher-education degree (Master's, PhD, MBA) in a technical field.

  • At least 7 years of experience working in the cloud, data or AI platform area esp. working with AWS.

  • You are an expert in software development, having been part of a software development organization in one of your previous career positions and therefore you understand and can guide the organization how to execute the fundamentals of modern software delivery: Version Control, CI, CD, Containerization, different compute types (Serverless, GPU, ...), Cloud Computing, Infrastructure as Code esp. on AWS.

  • You are a connectivity and data lake expert. You master topics such as Rest APIs, Authentication with Oauth2/OIDC/SAML, Object Stores like S3, Open Storage standards such as Iceberg or delta, query engines such as Spark, DuckDB or Polars.

  • You have significant hands-on experience in delivering solutions in data & AI, either by working as data engineer, scientists or machine learning engineer in previous roles.

  • You have strong experience with AWS and can develop and guide teams to build complex solutions on top. Preferably, you have also experience operating other an end-to-end data platform such as Palantir Foundry, Databricks or Snowflake.

  • Preferably, you have experience in contributing to open-source projects related to data & AI.

  • Experienced in working in a global matrix environment, lateral leadership and positively influencing senior stakeholders.

  • Ability to motivate, inspire, and align cross-functional teams with professionalism and clarity, influencing without authority.

  • Excellent team player who takes accountability and thinks cross functional
