Therapist/Social Worker
Position SummaryThe Center for Survivors is a Confidential Program at Michigan State University. The Michigan State University Center for Survivors Therapist will provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to intimate partner violence and stalking survivors. The MSU Center for Survivors therapist provides direct service to a diverse student population. The Therapist will provide comprehensive therapy services to victims of intimate partner violence and stalking; will facilitate individual counseling and group services and provide occasional advocacy and crisis intervention services; and serves as a consultant to campus partners and community members working with intimate partner violence and stalking victims. The Therapist has ethical, professional, and legal responsibilities to maintain records regarding work with clients and to protect client confidentiality in accordance with guidelines set by VOCA/VAWA, MSU, the State of Michigan, and other professional associations. Job Responsibilities*Provides individual therapy to survivors of intimate partner violence and stalking.*Completes intake sessions with new clients and documents the session.*Provides information about reporting options, health care options, and advocacy services at the Center for Survivors (Criminal Justice, Title IX, institutional, personal and academic) to survivors of intimate partner violence and stalking as needed.*Assists survivors with completing Michigan Crime Victims Compensation applications.*Coordinates referrals to services at the Center for Survivors, on campus and in the community when necessary.*Follows up and tracks referrals to ensure quality of care according to the individual client's needs.*Completes VOCA Grant, University, and program documentation as needed.*Maintains collaborative relationships with campus and community partners.*Maintains client confidentiality.*Completes other duties as specified and assigned.*Provides support to volunteers signed up for Crisis Chat and Hotline shifts.*Assists in facilitating training for new Survivor Advocacy Crisis Intervention (SACI) volunteers once per semester.*Completes other duties as specified and assigned.Minimum RequirementsKnowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing one or two years of graduate study beyond a Bachelor's degree, such as a Masters in Social Work; one to three years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in counseling in a health/mental health environment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and State certification as a Social Worker. ACSW may be required in order to provide primary supervision of social work students.
Desired QualificationsA. Demonstrated competency and expertise in providing services and building relationships with diverse populations.B. More than three years of experience providing crisis intervention, advocacy and/or counseling to survivors of interpersonal violence.C. Experience providing victim advocacy services in a university and/or college setting.D. Experience with data collection and reporting.E. Understanding of intimate partner violence victimization and natural responses to trauma.F. Awareness and experience using an intersectional lens with a focus on multiculturalism, diversity, equity and inclusion.G. Demonstrated empathy and supportive communication skills.H. Excellent written, verbal and presentation skills.I. Ability to plan, organize and prioritize work responsibilities.J. Ability to be honest and maintain professional boundaries.K. Ability to work collaboratively with other clinicians and victim service responders.L.
