SUMMARY: The R&D Labeling Specialist is responsible for the generation of product labels for all SKUs along with technical and regulatory compliance of any new label. The position also assists with development of new recipes and in reformulation of existing products to meet consumer expectations.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create product label information (NFS) in compliance with FDA/USDA regulations, including allergens, non-GMO claims, etc., using Genesis. Maintain Genesis database. Review all in-process labels for technical and regulatory compliance. Responsible for submitting all USDA and organic label approvals. Work with R&D scientist to develop and commercialize new products in pilot plant & manufacturing setting. Provide guidance to R&D team on how to balance flavors. Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education and Experience:
Bachelors degree in Food Science or a related field preferred; or 0 to 3 years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Better Process School certificate, or the ability to obtain it. Completed recent training in current NLEA regulations, or formal plan to acquire.
Skills:
Computer skills including spreadsheets and data analysis. Excellent written and verbal communication skills; excellent proofreading skills are a plus. Basic mathematical and reasoning skills. Ability to multi-task on a variety of projects in various cross-functional teams.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to Director of R&D.Works closely with Manufacturing, Engineering, Sales, Quality and Procurement.In the event of an absence, the duties of this position will be covered by the Director of R&D who has successfully been trained on the functions of the R&D Labeling Specialist.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, stretch, stoop, bend, use hands and fingers and climb stairs. This job requires the employee to be able to read, write and communicate orally in English. The employee must be able to hear and have color vision.
