This position is responsible for managing all paint shop employees. The position also orders all parts, supplies and materials needed in the paint shop.
Essential Duties and Responsibilites
Managing workflow: Planning, organizing, and directing the work of painters and mechanical employees
Ensuring quality: Ensuring that painting, manufacturing instructions and safety standards are followed
Managing resources: Ensuring that the required tools and materials are available
Evaluating performance: Conducting performance evaluations and recommending hiring and disciplinary actions
Collaborating: Collaborating with other skilled crafts and interacting with customers
Complying with policies: Complying with company policies and procedures, and fulfilling legal health and safety duties
Developing reports: Developing and maintaining management tools and reports to monitor performance
Estimating and budgeting for material and labor costs
Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
High School Diploma or equivalent and painting certification required. Vocational diploma and experience in a manufacturing environment which includes all aspects of industrial painting of locomotives and assembly of locomotive subassemblies is highly preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
Must be highly detail-orientated and possess excellent organization skills.
Superior communication skills; must be comfortable engaging in a variety of different communicative modes (verbal, non-verbal and written) and be attuned to others through strong active listening skills.
Must be able to perform the physical requirements of working on locomotives.
Ability to assess multiple tasks and develop a plan to complete them in a timely manner.
Must have the ability to work well with others as part of a team.
Ability to maintain and operate all industrial painting equipment.
Ability to train employees on how to safely operate all industrial painting equipment and other equipment.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

The employee works in a plant environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, airborne particles or fumes when in the plant environment. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
