The Director of Compliance leads the execution and ongoing enhancement of the Bank’s Compliance Management System (CMS). Primary focus is on leading the evolution of the CMS in areas of proactive compliance management, business line outreach and partnership and overall team skill building. The Director of Compliance will be responsible for written and verbal updates to the Board of Directors and related committees. This role requires a strategic leader who can ensure the Bank adheres to regulatory requirements and internal policies while fostering a culture of compliance and integrity.

  • Develop, implement, manage, assess and advance the Bank’s CMS; areas include but are not limited to policies, procedures, training and monitoring to ensure adherence to federal, state and local regulations.
  • Provide senior level leadership through his/her thorough understanding of the consumer regulatory requirements and environment as well as business acumen.
  • Lead the Compliance team through priority setting, team management and delivery support.
  • Lead the Bank through assessment of proposed legislation, regulatory guidance and regulatory environment and guide integration/implementation of changes to the CMS.
  • Facilitate proactive assessment of the Bank’s CMS through internal and external trend analysis, and compliance risk assessments and monitoring to enable a prioritization framework for action and to support development of CMS priorities.
  • Lead prioritized compliance projects and program development efforts to ensure Bank’s alignment with regulatory expectations.
  • Guide outreach efforts through partnership within the Compliance Department and across the business lines of the Bank to integrate compliance practices into the Bank’s operations.
  • Collaborate with leaders and project owners to identify, support and address potential emerging issues and project needs.
  • Function as lead point of contact for compliance audit and examination activities, including data analysis, document creation and project tracking rigor.
  • Complete his/her duties with discretion and confidentiality reflecting the sensitive nature of the work and to be comfortable with working under a deadline.

Other Duties

  • Complies with all policies and procedures as applied to the Bank's BSA/AML policy.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Skills/Abilities

  • Thorough knowledge of Deposit and Lending related consumer compliance regulations.
  • Strong problem solving and analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex regulatory requirements and apply them to the Bank’s operational needs.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with senior management and regulatory bodies.
  • Effective influence and coaching skills.
  • Microsoft Office Suite experience.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment

This job operates in a clerical office setting. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines. Office environment with job duties conducted via telephone, face to face meetings, and on the computer.

Physical Demands

This position requires manual dexterity, the ability to lift files and opening cabinets. This position requires bending, stooping or standing as necessary.

Travel

Travel may be required for this position.

Education and Experience

  • 4-year college degree required; Graduate or Law Degree preferred.
  • Ten years of experience in a compliance, risk management or similar role in the financial services industry.
  • Certification through CRCM or similar preferred.
  • Experience working within and influencing matrixed teams.
