Job Description:




SUNY Schenectady County Community College seeks a part-time Maintenance Helper in Facilities. This is a non-competitive civil service position that involves a variety of semi-skilled and unskilled tasks in connection with the maintenance, repair and cleaning activities of buildings, grounds and equipment. Work is performed under direct supervision from a higher level employee. The incumbent does related work as required.





Typical Work Activities:





  • Participates in maintenance and operation of boiler room, air conditioning and ventilation equipment;

  • Cleans desks, chairs, and other office furniture;

  • Assists in the repairing and refurnishing of various office furniture;

  • Mows lawns and shovels snow;

  • Performs general grounds maintenance activities;

  • Assists in painting exteriors and interiors of buildings;

  • Operates light motor and vehicle equipment;

  • Loads and unloads trucks and moves cartons, furniture, equipment and various other items;

  • Performs a variety of minor carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical and general building maintenance tasks as required;

  • Perform a variety of related duties as required.






Requirements:





Full Performance Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Personal Characteristics:




Working knowledge of the various trades: carpentry, painting, masonry, plumbing and electrical; working knowledge of maintenance methods and practices; working knowledge of common tools and terminology used in maintenance activities; ability to carry out simple written and oral instructions.





Minimum Qualifications:




(A) Graduation from high school or possession of high school equivalency diploma and six months experience as a helper in any of the following trades: carpentry, plumbing, masonry, electrical; or in general building maintenance practices; OR
(B) One year experience as outlined in (A) above; OR
(C) An equivalent combination of training and experience as defined by (A) and (B) above.





Please note: Part-time experience will be prorated





Special Requirement:




Possession of a valid New York State Driver's License at time of appointment.





NOTE: The essential functions of this job are determined by the department/jurisdiction where the job is located.





Special Information:





  • VISA sponsorship is not available for this position

  • Offers of employment will be conditional based on the successful completion of a background check

  • Hours for this position are: Monday - Friday 6:00pm-10:00pm.






Additional Information:





Salary: $19.11 per hour, (Grade 4A, Step 1)
