Job Description:

Essential Duties:


  • Receive referrals or requests from providers to submit applications for medication assistance,

  • Receive and answer telephone calls, responding to questions or requests regarding patient medications

  • Provide pharmaceutical clerical support and maintain strict security and accountability of medications

  • Keep current and up-to-date on assistance program drug trends

  • Verify and reconcile medication shipment to pharmacy, stock, and shipping documents.

  • Verifies medication delivery and inventory arrival

  • Assists with quality assurance reports

  • Processes and tracks refills

  • Ensure medications are labeled and prepared for transport

  • Update and maintain schedule, medication logs, patient information, files, and inventory in the electronic health record

  • Track application status

  • Collaborate with clinical staff to establish and maintain vaccine assistance program

  • Receive vaccine shipment and proper storage

  • Assists providers with dispensing of sample medications

  • Ensures proper storage, labeling, and documentation for all sample medications.

  • Responds to inquiries from patients and assists in the resolution of complaints

  • Participates and provides input on process improvement

  • Reviews reports to identify opportunities for medication assisstance

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required; or two years' experience within a hospital, clinic, pharmacy, or pharmacy assistance program setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience required. The technician must have a knowledge and understanding for the use and side effects of prescription and nonprescription drugs

Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to read, analyze medical documents. Fluent in English. Bilingual in Spanish required.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems collects data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Certificates and Licenses:

Current Registered Pharmacy Technician by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy required

Computer Skills:

Demonstrate working knowledge of the Internet, Outlook, Word and Excel applications. Knowledge of electronic health record.

While performing the duties of this job, the team member is exposed to a medical office environment having direct contact with patients and clients. Position necessitates bending, stooping, twisting, turning, walking, climbing step stools, sitting and standing for periods of time. Must be able to lift and maneuver 25 pounds.
