JOB SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE:

The Technical Writer plays a crucial role in creating clear, accurate, and comprehensive documentation for healthcare products, procedures, and systems, ensuring complex medical and technical information is easily understood by diverse audiences. This position ensures all materials, such as user manuals, instructional guides, and reference documents, are clear, concise, and aligned with industry standards. The successful candidate will possess a strong understanding of medical terminology, be detail-oriented, and be able to convey complex information in an accessible and efficient manner. By producing precise and accessible documentation, the Technical Writer ensures healthcare professionals, patients, and stakeholders have the critical information they need to navigate products and procedures effectively, ultimately contributing to enhanced healthcare delivery and improved patient outcomes.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Develop and maintain a variety of documentation including user manuals, technical guides, regulatory submissions, and training materials.
  • Write and edit documentation that effectively communicates medical and technical information while ensuring clarity and adherence to industry standards.
  • Work closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), healthcare professionals, and development teams to gather information and ensure the accuracy of content.
  • Ensure all documentation complies with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards, including FDA guidelines and HIPAA regulations.
  • Regularly review and update existing documentation to reflect changes in products, procedures, or regulations.
  • Conduct thorough reviews for consistency, accuracy, and completeness of all documentation.
  • Create and support the development of training materials and manuals for healthcare providers and patients.
  • Manage multiple documentation projects, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with project goals.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Excellent writing skills with the ability to produce clear, accurate, and well-organized documentation.
  • Strong editing and proofreading skills to ensure documentation is error-free and meets quality standards.
  • Proficiency with documentation and publishing tools such as Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and possibly tools like MadCap Flare or Confluence.
  • Understanding of medical and clinical terminology and the ability to accurately convey complex medical information.
  • Awareness of healthcare regulations and standards, including FDA guidelines, HIPAA compliance, and other relevant requirements.
  • Ability to conduct thorough research and gather accurate information from various sources, including medical literature and SMEs.
  • High level of accuracy and meticulousness in documenting complex information.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for effective collaboration with SMEs, healthcare professionals, and other stakeholders.
  • Skills in managing multiple documentation projects, prioritizing tasks, and meeting deadlines.
  • Flexibility to work in a fast-paced and dynamic environment with evolving project requirements.
  • Experience working in cross-functional teams, including collaborating with developers, designers, and other contributors.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, technical writing, communications, healthcare, life science, or related field.
  • Minimum two (2) years’ experience in technical writing, especially within the healthcare or medical field.

PREFERRED:

  • Master’s degree in English, technical writing, communications, healthcare, life science, or related field.
  • Certification from the American Medical Writers Association (AMWA) or the Society for Technical Communication (STC).
  • Familiarity with medical terminology, clinical procedures, and healthcare regulations. Experience with medical devices, clinical trials, or healthcare software.
  • Certification in medical writing or technical communication (e.g., AMWA, STC).
  • Familiarity with content management systems (CMS) for organizing and publishing documentation.
