Data Science Fellowship
The Policy & Economics Division of the Association of American Railroads is inviting applications for the Data Science Fellowship for the year 2024-2025. This fellowship offers graduate students or experienced professionals a unique opportunity to cultivate and apply data management skills to support various projects within the railroad industry. The initiative aims to enhance participants professional growth while contributing to AARs ongoing data modernization endeavors.

About the Fellowship:
This fellowship offers data enthusiasts a unique platform to apply their skills in database management to tackle real-world challenges in the rail industry while enhancing the efficiency of the services we provide to our members.
Candidates will contribute significantly to developing workflows and tools supporting projects across the railroad industry and its regulatory landscape. The primary focus will be on enhancing our report preparation process through data migration and workflow automation. Fellows will play a pivotal role in driving other key data transformation and enterprise design initiatives, primarily by streamlining data extraction from various source systems and preparing it for analysis.
The selected candidate will collaborate closely with industry experts and economists to understand data relationships and develop strategies for efficient transfer of unstructured data to an Azure Database, enabling better accessibility and scalability. Additionally, fellows are expected to run and optimize SQL queries for efficient data retrieval and manipulation, and contribute to the development, testing, and maintenance of different data pipelines.

Key Details:
Part-time appointment for six months.Stipend commensurate with experience.Mentorship and career support provided.
