Position: Product Safety Engineer



Department: Engineering



Work Location: Marlborough, MA, 100% Onsite



What you will be doing:



Responsible for creating test plans and reviewing Test Data Packages. Authorizes and assigns test packages as required per product and specifications. Coordinates, supervises, handles, and develops product projects. Creates new and improved test procedures. Support activities essential for the delivery and commercialization of products, maintaining key functional competencies within the engineering group for the shared services provided for all Business Units. Such activities include lab-based developmental advice and recommendations as per our experience.


  • Work with NPI and CE design teams to ensure the electrical and mechanical design is aligned with applicable agency standards


  • Ensure critical components are approved to or meet regulatory requirements


  • Requests samples and documentation (ex. Schematics, mechanical drawings, owner guides, product and carton labels, model number) for Agency approval from our Shenzhen office or straight from the manufacturer.


  • Create a project test program for Technicians


  • Prepares Agency Submission Test Program for Lab Personnel and assists Lab Personnel with tests and questions about the Safety Standard and Helen of Troy Test Procedures / Specifications for the product


  • Obtains quotes and submission dates for Agency Certification


  • Ensure the testing and certification schedule aligns with the program schedule and supervise and report on project progress weekly


  • Prepares Draft Agency description for APO and manufacturers' Review and Approval


  • Review all Test Data reports with the assistance of lab personnel. Advises BU's PMs on how to improve a product that is failing per their corresponding Agency standards


  • Creates and prepares Agency Release Notice (ARN) which enables the factory to prepare for production. Maintains follow-up e-mails concerning projects to ensure they stay on schedule.

  • Maintain and ensure all CEC (Unlisted Components) are tested and submitted for annual evaluation.


  • Understand and follow the Helen of Troy Management System as it pertains to the Safety Agency Compliance requirements.


  • Keep current on standards, regulations, and certification requirements and communicate the changes to the compliance team.


  • Ensure the Instruction Manual, carton artwork, and Graphics for all Business Units meet the test standard requirements.


  • Works with NPD on DFMEA and DQTPS for all BU's if required. Prepares schedules and supervises laboratory work activities. Performs actual work similar to technicians when required.


  • Work in creating or assisting with internal Engineering Test Methods (ETMs).







Skills needed to be successful in this role:



  • Multi-tasking, time management, efficiency, relationship building, and collaboration skills.


  • Able to work under pressure and meet aggressive deadlines.







Minimum Qualifications:



  • Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four-year college or university in a related profession/field.


  • 2 years' experience working in a Laboratory environment performing tests according to safety standard requirements and experience directly interfacing with Safety Compliance Agencies.


  • Solid proficiency in MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Windows-based software.


  • Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis.







Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience working in an accredited laboratory.
