Position Overview:
The Capital Finance Analyst is a key business partner responsible for ensuring the financial integrity of capital projects across the organization. This role focuses on providing financial analysis, ensuring compliance with fixed asset policies, and maintaining accurate capital accounting records. Serving as a key liaison between finance, project management, and other cross-functional teams, the analyst supports informed financial decision-making and adherence to capital and project management standards. Success in this role requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to thrive in a dynamic environment.
Responsibilities:
Interpret and apply accounting policies related to Fixed Assets, Capital, and Catalyst
Review and challenge capital projects, including business justifications, economic assumptions, and capital vs. expense determinations
Complete, analyze, and validate project economics for capital projects
Manage capital project administration tasks, including creation, closure, asset management, and retirements
Perform Value of Work Done (VOWD) analysis and execute manual journal entries for month-end reporting
Ensure compliance with Delegation of Authority for capital projects
Provide financial support for capital projects across Refining, Chemicals and Distribution, with a focus on Catalyst and Tank projects, as well as large capital project teams, as needed
Provide end-to-end support for catalyst projects, including Investment Proposal (IP) creation, requisitioning, cost management, and asset creation
Analyze financial data to prepare and provide monthly latest estimates, variance analysis, and execute month-end closing duties
Prepare and maintain detailed and comprehensive documentation of processes and procedures to support
Assist in the annual business plan for depreciation, catalyst, and tanks
Lead the annual asset verification process
Support special projects across finance, the Refinery, Chemicals, and Distribution
Experience and Qualifications:
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
Minimum of 5 years of experience in Finance or Accounting.
Proficiency in financial modeling, valuation, and analysis
Strong business partnering, collaboration, and stakeholder engagement skills
Expertise in financial controls, governance, and assurance practices
Ability to prepare and deliver business-focused reports
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey financial information to cross-functional teams
Strong analytical skills with attention to detail for accurate financial reporting and analysis
Proven ability to identify issues and develop effective solutions
Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
Adaptability to thrive in a dynamic, changing environment
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint
Preferred Education and Experience:
Knowledge of financial systems, including SAP
Familiarity with Refinery and/or Chemical complexes
Experience with Power BI
Experience in creating and managing complex spreadsheets
