WHEDA is seeking two Housing Technicians to join our Risk & Compliance team in the Madison Office.

SALARY: Hiring Range for this position is from $ 23.59/hr. to 28.72/hr. Offered pay will be based on qualifications. WHEDA provides a competitive salary and WHEDA employees participate in the State of Wisconsin benefit package which includes retirement, health insurance and deferred compensation programs.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Housing Technician position is responsible for customer-focused, administrative housing support for the Compliance Team. The position also provides technical assistance with monitoring WHEDA’s multifamily affordable housing portfolio to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. This position has daily interaction with external partners, including tenants, resource centers, management agents, and property owners.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

  • Receives and logs all owner/agent and tenant concerns and contacts; researches, interprets, and resolves easy to intermediate concerns; assigns concerns regarding advanced compliance concepts to appropriate staff member to ensure efficient customer service.
  • Provides administrative and technical support for multifamily portfolio management, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of document processing; stays updated and knowledgeable with State and Federal Tax Credits, HUD Section 8, and other related assistance programs.
  • Acts as a liaison between internal and external customers and Authority departments; responds to internal and external customer inquiries regarding policies and procedures. Prepares and maintains program records, reports, and other pertinent documents; monitors and maintains data integrity in computer systems.
  • Receives, logs, and processes a variety of forms and/or submissions related to the multifamily housing portfolio; reviews for compliance based on established criteria.
  • Conducts regular follow-up with noncompliant agents/owners until acceptable resolution or response is received.
  • Researches, interprets, applies, and communicates changing government regulations, rulings, legal decisions, and handbooks/manuals as they apply to the multifamily portfolio.
  • Performs other routine clerical work and may assist with other department activities including preparation of training events and materials, email communications, etc.
  • Performs or assists with other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Associate degree in Business, Social Work, or a closely related field AND 3 years of experience providing support, customer service, or resource assistance; OR equivalent education and experience
  • Valid Driver’s License required

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Excellent ability to conduct and relay research, specifically related to housing regulations, principles, practices, procedures, and applicable federal, state, and local laws
  • Advanced knowledge and proven execution of customer service principles
  • Data collection methods
  • Leasing, occupancy, and fair housing principles
  • Database management principles
  • Proficiency with computer software, Microsoft Office, and the internet
  • Attention to detail, and ability to troubleshoot for process improvement
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Problem solving skills and ability to work under pressure
  • Successful prioritizing and management of work projects
  • Ability to work independently and efficiently
  • Strong adherence to confidentiality in working with clients and vendors
