Accountabilities:

We are seeking an experienced Lead Programmer to join our team in the Ho Tung Visualization Lab. In this role, you will take the lead in overseeing the development of cutting-edge animation projects while managing the training and mentorship of interns. As a key figure in the studio, you will guide new talent in the industry, helping them build valuable skills and fostering a collaborative learning environment.


Professional Experience/ Qualifications:



  • Programming experience in Python, Javascript or equivalent is required.

  • Knowledge of 3D animation software like Blender, Maya, 3ds Max, Houdini or equivalent required

  • Advanced knowledge of professional-level 3D animation, motion graphics, compositing, visual effects

  • One or more computer programming languages required: Javascript, Python, STACKS, HTML5, CSS, C#

  • Knowledge of story fundamentals and experience working with writers

  • Desire to work with Colgate faculty and subject-matter experts to help them shape ideas and concepts into effective visuals

  • Impeccable sense of timing for animation and camera

  • Understanding of the production pipeline and workflow

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and desire to work as part of a team

  • Ability to offer technical, pedagogical, creative, aesthetic, and practical input into decision-making processes, content storyboard production, and media production

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Ability to troubleshoot creative issues related to production

  • Strong ability to receive constructive feedback and effectively translate it into actionable goals, objectives, and solutions

  • Able to adhere to naming conventions and studio guidelines

  • Able to communicate effectively

  • Ability to complete scheduled tasks on time


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Significant experience with digital animation is recommended, including advanced knowledge of professional-level digital 2D and 3D design software, particularly Maya and After Effects.

  • Production experience in an academic or informal science center setting is preferred, as is experience developing materials for K-12 audiences.

  • A strong background in art and design is recommended.


Education:

B.A. in computer science, communication, arts, media arts, or a media-related field, or comparable training and experience in a media-related field.
