Director of Social Action at Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Bethesda, Maryland

Job Description:

Stone Ridge is seeking a Director of Social Action to begin in August 2025.

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart, a member of the international Network of Sacred Heart Schools, is a Catholic, independent college preparatory school for girls, Grades 1-12, with a co-educational Early Childhood Program, Pre-Kindergarten, and Kindergarten in Bethesda, Maryland. With over 780 students, and rooted in the Goals of Sacred Heart education, Stone Ridge inspires young women to lead and serve, through lives of purpose that integrate faith, intellect, community, social action, and personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom.

The Director of Social Action provides leadership and coordination for the Upper School Social Action Program in alignment with the Goals and Criteria of Sacred Heart Education.

The Director of Social Action:

• organizes every aspect of the Social Action program, including: morning presentations and afternoon reflections; training and support of Fourth Academic Social Action Leaders; sites for Second, Third, and Fourth Academic student visits; transportation for students and faculty; communication with families; and the cultivation of student leadership throughout the program. 
• is responsible for developing areas of growth for the program, including partnerships with local organizations, determining and designating placement of students at particular sites, and communicating with partner organizations about the nature and requirements of our program.
• in conjunction with the Head of Upper School, the Director of Social Action manages the budget for the program and expenditures for Student leadership.
• also coordinates student participation in the Network of Sacred Heart Schools Summer Service Projects. 

The Director of Social Action teaches two class as a member of the Upper School Faculty, actively collaborating with Learning Specialists, Librarians, Educational Technologists, and the counseling staff to develop strategies to support all students. In addition, the Director of Social Action attends all faculty and employee meetings, serves as a student Advisor, fulfills other faculty duties, and maintains good communication with families about student progress through regular progress reports and responses to parents’ inquiries. 

Compensation includes salary commensurate with experience. This position would be compensated based on our salary scale, with the salary range for this position likely falling somewhere between $60,000 and $90,000+, depending on years of experience and highest degree. The desired candidate has experience in independent and/or Catholic school and holds an undergraduate degree and demonstrated experience in service learning. In addition, the Director of Social Action has taught in a field of study and is familiar with teaching in the model of Understanding by Design.
