What You Will Contribute:




The role of Portfolio Manager within Badger Meter plays a critical role in driving growth and profitability within the assigned product categories. Core to this function is leading a team of product managers to develop strategies and execute tactics leading to revenue growth, incremental customer acquisition and market share expansion. Key activities will focus on competitive analysis, product planning/new product development, pricing, forecasting/inventory planning, promotion and product lifecycle management (analysis and rationalization). With the support of the product managers, the role of the Product Portfolio Manager is to ensure strategic alignment across the broader portfolio of products which serve the same or related customer applications. Beyond alignment, this role is responsible for confirming key stakeholder voices, such as Market Managers, Sales Team Personnel, Channel Partners and Direct Customers, are heard within the organization holistically. Internally, the Product Portfolio Manager will be responsible for driving proper prioritization of initiatives, both within the team and supporting areas such as Engineering, to maximize positive impact to the portfolio P&L.



Job Duties:


Portfolio Performance


  • Continuously analyze key performance metrics of the assigned category (quality metrics, customer sentiment, unit volume, revenue, margin, inventory position, warranty reserves, and RFP win/loss) to prioritize team goals and time allocation to the areas of greatest impact.


  • Own the multi-year forecast for the portfolio, accounting for macro drivers and collaborating with sales channel partners.


  • Coordinate with Manufacturing and Supply Chain via the Sales, Inventory & Operations Planning (SIOP) process to manage inventory and lead times.


  • Determine product pricing and pricing strategies/policies based on market conditions and gross margin objectives.




Market Intelligence

  • Prepare and regularly maintain competitive analysis including past/current offerings, as well as likely future releases based on competitor strategic positioning.


  • Collaborate with Market Managers and Channel Partners, attend trade shows/other industry events and actively participate in trade associations to develop a broad and deep understanding of market drivers and trends across the entirety of the assigned portfolio of applications and products.


  • Summarize and disseminate market knowledge into the broader organization in an easily accessible manner for supporting departments and leverage insights into portfolio strategy and specific product line roadmaps. Specifically emphasizing the interconnections between various product offerings and the synergies or conflicts that are felt by customers in the segment.




Portfolio Lifecycle Management

  • Develop short- and long-range portfolio plans inclusive of sub-category product and technology roadmaps showing the alignment and complimentary customer value of product lines consistent with market needs and corporate strategic plans. •


  • Coordinate with business partners (Engineering, PMO, Operations, Purchasing) in the New Product Development process to ensure that product launches meet the requirements of customer value, cost and launch timing.


  • Manage the retirement plans of products as part of the lifecycle plan to ensure customers are appropriately transitioned, E&O inventory levels are minimized and any required post-retirement product maintenance has an approved ownership plan (examples: firmware maintenance, service part availability, etc.).





Education and Experience:



  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Management or Engineering required


  • 7+ years of prior experience with managing a team of product professionals (Product Managers, Product Specialists and Product Owners) desired





Qualifications:



  • Demonstrated performance of achieving product plan goals required


  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make informed decisions required


  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills required


  • Proficiency in project management tools and software preferred
