Job Title: Supervisor - Risk and Control Monitoring
Location: Hybrid in Sacramento, CA
About the Role:
As the Supervisor - Risk and Control Monitoring, you will support the Operations Planning and Governance Team within Service Operations, acting as the first line of defense in our Business Control Function. You will collaborate with partners across the organization to strengthen risk management and modernize operations. Leading a small team, you will develop, implement, and manage the control inventory and documentation, ensuring the effectiveness of the business unit's control monitoring program. This role requires strong partnerships within Service Operations and with Compliance, Enterprise Risk Management, and Internal Audit to align with the organization's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and develop the Business Unit's First Line Control Monitoring Program under the guidance of the Director of Operations Planning and Governance.
Identify and document controls across Service Operations, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and laws, identifying control gaps, and recommending mitigation options.
Maintain a continuous Control Monitoring Program, using a risk-based approach to review control effectiveness and minimize inherent risks.
Review business processes and documentation to ensure controls are documented and assign risk ratings to key documents.
Manage reporting of control measurements, track Key Risk Indicators (KPIs) and Key Surveillance Points (KSPs) for risk analysis and decision-making.
Collaborate with the Service Operations Quality Assurance Program to enhance its effectiveness.
Assist in risk assessments, reviews, and audits conducted by Compliance, Enterprise Risk Management, and Internal Audit.
Promote a culture of continuous process improvement by leveraging subject matter expertise to strengthen controls and mitigate risks.
Foster risk and control awareness across the organization by building relationships with key stakeholders.
Stay informed about regulatory requirements and risks inherent to Service Operations, maintaining control activities that align with the organization's risk appetite.
Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and innovation.
Manage a team of individual contributors, balancing workloads, monitoring deliverables, and ensuring departmental efficiency.
Recruit and develop talent, fostering a positive and engaging work environment that promotes skill development and employee morale.
Demonstrate strong leadership qualities, sound judgment, and critical thinking in managing day-to-day operations and strategic initiatives.
Perform additional duties as required to support Service Operations, including ad-hoc risk analysis and specific risk and control initiatives.
Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or a related field preferred. Relevant work experience may be considered.
Experience: 8-10 years of experience in risk and control, regulatory compliance, and governance. 4+ years in quality assurance/control/review, preferably in financial institutions. 3+ years in leadership or supervisory roles.
Skills:
Ability to make risk-based decisions with limited information.
Strong prioritization and deadline management skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal, and collaborative skills.
Exceptional attention to detail.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged sitting with occasional mobility required.
Corrected vision and hearing within normal range.
Occasional movement throughout the department to interact with staff.
Preferred Certifications:
Compliance and Risk certifications such as Credit Union Compliance Expert (CUCE), NAFCU Certified Compliance Officer (NCCO), Certified Bank Compliance Officer (CBCO), or Certified Regulatory Compliance Manager (CRCM).
