Job Description:

Nemours is seeking a Social Work Supervisor in Jacksonville, FL.

This position will provide direct supervision of social work team as well as provide support for the divisions of gastroenterology, neurology, and PRN coverage for surgical divisions when needed.

The Social Work Supervisor, with the support of the department manager, is responsible for the operational integrity of the Social Work Department. This position provides direct day to day supervision, support, and leadership to Social Work Associates. The Social Work Supervisor has both administrative and direct service responsibilities in the area of Social Work and provides guidance to staff, making certain the activities of the department are in line with policies, procedures, and the Nemours' vision. The supervisor will be able to demonstrate proficiency in both direct service under the Department of Patient and Family Services, as well as supervisory achievement.

Essential Functions:

Leadership:

  • Promotes a positive work attitude among associates, through role modeling, supportive interactions, and the demonstration of the Nemours Standards of Behaviors.
  • Provide direction and guidance to staff related to resource accessibility, day to day clinical barriers impacting patient care, streamlining of social work practices, etc.
  • Is responsible for the clinical supervision of assigned associates.
  • Demonstrates a consistent ability to support, mentor, advise, encourage, and develop associates.
  • Facilitates meaningful conversations with associates around professional development and related activities.
  • Provide regular and timely feedback to Social Work associates.
  • Participates in Performance Management for Social Work associates.
  • Participates in the recruitment, selection, and retention of Social Work associates.
  • Promotes standards of psychosocial care for the Social Work Department.
  • Provides support and is a resource regarding the topic of psychosocial care to other disciplines.
  • Identified education needs of social workers, including but not limited to orientation of new hires, ongoing education, etc.
  • Assumes responsibility for staffing and scheduling associates. Assignments reflect appropriate utilization of personnel.
  • Assures continuing professional development for personnel.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve services, making recommendations and implements actions as appropriate and consistent with the goals of the organization.
  • Understands and supports the strategic plan of the organization, appreciates the role social work has within this plan, and is a leader in communicating this to Associates.
  • Maintains and supports general operations including KPIs, annual goals and department productivity measures.
  • Clinical:

  • Attend patient care unit and/or rounds in accordance to team expectations and provide
  • Manage complex assessments of the patient/family's biopsychosocial situation establishes goals and periodically re-assesses the patient/family situation.
  • Provide crisis intervention services where indicated for the management of domestic violence, psychiatric emergency cases, child abuse, family disputes, etc.
  • Provide therapeutic, goal directed counseling.
  • Interface with other stakeholders involved in the care of a patient, including but not limited to insurance providers, case managers, physicians, clinicians.
  • Coordinates discharge planning needs of patients and their families in an efficient, effective and timely manner while including the family in the process.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships across disciplines and coordinate family meetings. Coordinate recommendations of team meetings.
  • Document social work notes in the patient medical record within the guidelines of the Department policy.
  • Keep appraised of community resources and provide resource specific information to the assessed needs.
  • Provides advocacy and support to patients and families.
  • May provide coverage to the department in times of vacancies and absences.

  • Job Requirements:

    Masters degree in Social Work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE)

    Must have a valid license in Clinical Social Work in the State of Florida (LCSW)

    Graduate school internship may be applied to the job related experience at the discretion of the Senior Director.
