Your Role:



At MilliporeSigma, as a Scientist, your primary responsibility is to lead and support the development and commercial application of innovative services in the biosafety testing domain, with a strong emphasis on BSL-3 requirements, laboratory automation, and digitalization. You will personally oversee the overall study design and execution in BSL-3 and BSL-2 laboratories, ensuring that all protocols adhere to the stringent safety and regulatory standards essential for BSL-2/3 operations. A mandatory requirement for this role is to complete the necessary training to gain access to and work in the BSL-3 laboratory.


  • Interpret and report study results while ensuring the scientific integrity of all laboratory work, adhering to industry standards and regulations, including current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and Good Laboratory Practices (GLP).

  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the company's testing services, technical principles, and their applications relevant to your position, while serving as the lead subject matter expert (SME) in executing studies at the BSL-3 clearance level.

  • Acquire proficiency in advanced laboratory automation technologies, including liquid handling systems, robotic platforms, and high-throughput screening tools, as well as expertise in automation software and programming languages to streamline workflows and enhance reproducibility.

  • Champion digital transformation initiatives to improve operational efficiency and scientific innovation, providing training and mentorship to team members on automation tools and digital platforms.

  • Collaborate closely with laboratory management, staff, and support personnel to meet or exceed internal and external expectations, actively participating in laboratory activities and advancing the application of your scientific expertise in biosafety testing.

  • Develop biosafety assays in accordance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and relevant regulations.


Who You Are




Minimum Qualifications:



  • Ph.D. in scientific discipline (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, etc.), with two 2+ years of laboratory experience.

  • Master's Degree in a scientific discipline (e.g. Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, etc.), with two 4+ years of laboratory experience.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills demonstrated through presentations, project oversight, and customer interaction.

  • Strong self-development, initiative, and leadership capabilities, with effective coaching and training skills for complex technical work.

  • Proven ability to drive team projects, make key decisions, establish timelines, and supervise project teams.

  • Proficient in experimental design, evaluating and implementing new technologies, and demonstrating strategic thinking.

  • Prior experience with laboratory automation technologies (e.g., liquid handlers, robotic systems) and related programming languages.

  • Familiarity with digital tools for laboratory management, such as LIMS, electronic lab notebooks (ELNs), and data analysis software.

  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and implement emerging technologies in automation and digitalization, such as AI/ML applications or cloud-based scientific computing platforms.

  • Experience in cell culture techniques, along with a background in Immunology and Molecular Biology.

  • Prior experience with virus handling in a BSL-3 laboratory.



Pay Range for this position - $84,700 - $131,000


Our ranges are derived from several sources, and largely reliant on relevant industry market data.
