Applications Engineer

1.0 Basic Activity
1.1 This procedure defines and details the position requirements, function, reporting relationships, authority, responsibilities, duties, and measurements of performance for the position of Applications Engineer.
2.0 POSITION REQUIREMENTS The following are the minimum requirements to fill this position.

   1. Proficiency in English, both spoken and written
   2. Strong problem-solving skills in math and physical sciences
   3. Excellent planning, organization and communication skills
   4. Computer skills, including MS Word, Excel. SolidWorks a plus
   5. Strong knowledge of manufacturing, especially metals manufacturing
   6. Knowledge of cost and selling price.
   7. Bachelor's degree in engineering or equivalent experience in a related field
   8. Ability to understand and use basic inspection tools, calipers, micrometers, shadow graph, etc.
   9. Ability to understand product drawings and specifications, such as military and commercial.
   10. Experience with international quality system standards, such as ISO9001, AS9100 etc.

   FUNCTION T he following are the main function(s) of this position.
   
   
   1. As a technical subject matter expert, the Applications Engineer serves as liaison between teams of sales professionals, engineers, quality technicians and inspectors to implement and monitor all planned quality activities to provide assurance of a conforming product and maintain a high level of customer confidence.
   2. The Applications Engineer is a liaison between Sales, Quotation, Production, Quality, Purchasing and the customer/supplier.
   3. The Applications Engineer will be accountable for helping to determine all customer requirements for new and existing product.
   4. The Applications Engineer will assist in determining the internal and external capabilities of Samtan and our vendor partners to provide appropriate input about Samtan's capability to manufacture all new jobs.
   5. The Applications Engineer collaborates with Strategic Sourcing in developing outside vendors to increase the products and services Samtan can provide.

4.0 Reporting relationships

   1. The Applications Engineer reports to the Sales and Business Development Manager.

5.0 AUTHORITY

The Applications Engineer has the authority to:

   1. Set goals for and measure performance of all direct reports.

1. Duties
   
   
   1. Serve as first line technical support- primarily for customer quotations and business development for various applications. Key emphasis will be on the ability to understand customer requirements and rapidly demonstrate how existing or new solutions can be utilized to provide conforming product to the customer with costing, timing, and resources considered. Drawings, military and commercial specifications and other technical documents will be the primary resources used to understand what solutions are needed.
   2. Provide necessary documentation and production details for all products to QA / Contract Review upon receipt of PO from customer.
   3. Ensure necessary drawings and production work instructions are updated correctly when developing new manufacturing processes or when changes are required.
   4. Provide engineering specifications, vendor qualifications and sourcing capabilities necessary for purchasing to obtain competitive bids for all materials, equipment, parts and tools
   5. Other duties as assigned

1. MEASUREMENTS OF PERFORMANCE

Performance will be evaluated during the yearly employee performance review by the person listed as "reports to" in section 4.1 above. Criteria for satisfactory performance will be based in part on successful execution of the above tasks.
