Social Sciences Computing Services (SSCS), a unit of the Social Sciences Division (SSD) provides support for SSD administration, research, and instructional activities. SSCS works closely with on-campus partners, departments, and vendors to further the mission of the Division.
Job Summary
The job manages IT activities supporting e-learning and in-person instruction. Design, deploy, and present information technology curriculum content. The SSCS Teaching and Technology team is a new and growing resource to support SSD's instructional activities and web-conferencing needs. Under the guidance of the Director, the Sr. Coordinator for Teaching & Technology and Events is responsible for developing and implementing resources and services, including: new technologies; training programs for staff and faculty; and pedagogic best practices, for instructors who are adopting audio-visual technologies in the classroom and/or online learning tools. The Sr. Coordinator for Teaching & Technology and Events recruits, trains, and supervises a team of support personnel; and advises the Dean's Office and SSCS leadership on new technologies, opportunities, and concerns within the areas of audio-visual and online pedagogy tools and the use of technology in teaching, as well as event management for web-conference and hybrid meetings and activities. Develops and implements plans within team to address the needs of University and Divisional policy. Develops budgets for new and existing projects and initiatives. Acts as an effective and reliable partner with partner organizations.
The Sr. Coordinator for Teaching & Technology and Events is responsible for the supervision and development of the Division's Teaching and Technology Team; and to advise Divisional leadership on new technologies, opportunities, and concerns within the areas of online pedagogy and event management. Develops and implements plans within the team to address the needs of University and Divisional policy. The Sr. Coordinator is responsible for working with SSCS leadership to understand and handle any policy changes and communicate those to the Teaching & Technology team. Develops budgets for new and existing projects and initiatives for the Teaching & Technology team. Acts as an effective and reliable partner to UChicago's AV Services and others. It is important the Sr. Coordinator for Teaching & Technology be an active participant in university-wide meetings and working groups with campus partner organizations to maintain its leadership position in classroom and teaching and technology.
Responsibilities
Advocates for Faculty regarding technological pedagogy concerns related to remote, hybrid, and in-person teaching.
Analyzes technology systems, processes and controls to ensure that all operations are efficient and functional.
Works with SSCS Leadership to support learning technology programs and assists and responds to all queries, questions, concerns, and requests on behalf of entire user-base as they related to teaching and technology.
Develops business workflows within Samanage and ServiceNow to manage operations and communications with stakeholders.
Drives special projects including operational improvement initiatives.
Establishes and manages existing vendor relationships.
Maintains industry standards and stays abreast of new software, solutions, releases, and product enhancements.
Guides a variety of IT support activities for end-user hardware/software resolution, and guides end-users through troubleshooting procedures. Uses fundamental knowledge of theUniversity's software systems to recommend system modifications to reduce user problems.
Provides technical guidance in setup, installation, and configuration of related hardware and software in compliance with internal controls, policies, and standards.
With some direction from others, performs a variety of IT activities supporting an e-learning environment, such as designing curriculum content.
Analyzes resources and services ranging from basic online courses to application of technology in teaching. This competence is developed by performing structured work assignments.
Performs other related work as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.
Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 2-5 years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Education:
Bachelor's degree.
Experience:
2-5 years of computer user support experience in resolving issues and providing a high level of service and experience using online content management systems for teaching and learning (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard, Moodle, Google Classroom) and classroom audio-video technology.
Experience with instructional design, including strategies for teaching and learning using online, multi-media, and distance-learning technologies.
Experience providing direct training to instruction personnel (faculty, teaching assistants) and supervising other trainers.
Experience providing direct management support for webinars and other online videoconferencing.
Background in data management and proper protocols / procedures.
Knowledge of professional IT practices with experience in data privacy and security.
Skillful in audio/visual systems related to conferencing solutions.
