PEAKS Renewables is focused on business opportunities at the intersection of decarbonization and natural gas, including Renewable Natural Gas, Biogas, Renewable Hydrogen, and Power-to-Gas Opportunities. Peaks is a subsidiary of Summit Utilities, a privately owned utility holding platform that currently operates gas distribution companies in five states. PEAKS is actively developing several Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and Hydrogen projects both within Summit’s utility territories and beyond.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role is an opportunity to play a key role in the operation of an important renewable energy project here in Maine. The primary responsibilities of the RNG Operations Technician I include a full range of duties associated with the operations and maintenance of the facilities (Clinton and surrounding farms). It will be important that in addition to manual labor supporting the operation, the candidate is also interested in and able to learn and become proficient with technical equipment and software.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct day-to-day operations and maintenance of the plant, which will involve working with mechanical and electrical equipment, including mixers, pumps, compressors, gas purification systems and pipelines
  • Respond to alarm conditions, diagnose, troubleshoot and correct digester and plant malfunctions
  • Adhere to company and project specific health and safety requirements, participate in monthly safety audits and inspections
  • Achieve and maintain Operations Qualification (OQ) certification to company standards, passing the required written tests and field evaluations
  • Maintain administrative records including logbook, filing system for drawings, instruction books and manuals, spare parts inventory and records, and compliance forms
  • Routinely operate a motor vehicle and/or off-road vehicle on undeveloped terrain
  • Be willing, able, and qualified to serve on the On-call assignment rotation as soon as possible following hire date; Able to work overtime including call outs outside of normal business hours, weekends and holidays
  • Perform general clean up at job sites and observe and implement proper safety practices
  • Perform daily site and environmental walk throughs
  • Support, assist, and direct the work of third-party contractors on site
  • Accurately complete all necessary paperwork including compliance and maintenance forms
  • Become familiar with the Operations & Maintenance (O&M) Manual for the facility including lock-out/tag-out procedures
  • Ability to work overtime, including callouts outside of normal business hours, weekends, and holidays
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Lead Technician or Plant Manager

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Requires high school diploma or GED
  • Experience working with mechanical equipment (pumps, mixers, piping, etc.)

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES

  • Learn to operate heavy equipment such as backhoe, trencher and a two-ton or larger truck.
  • Install and read pressure gauges, voltage meters, etc.
  • Use the proper tools for any given job.
  • Learn to use a Personal Computer, SAP, and Mobile Data
  • Demonstrate an aptitude for basic mechanical tasks.
  • Respond well to changing priorities.
  • Solve problems with logical solutions.
  • Demonstrate and utilize effective oral and written communications skills.
  • Listen effectively and clarify information as needed.
  • Respond to customers with courtesy and knowledge.
  • Participate successfully in team environment to accomplish assignments.
  • Demonstrate commitment to compliance with applicable laws and regulations, the Company’s Ethics and Compliance Code of Conduct, and other Company policies and procedures and do so consistently, take all required training courses and do so timely
  • Demonstrate respect for all individuals, adhere to the Company’s values and business practices and do both consistently


The position is covered under the D.O.T. regulations and Summit Utilities Drug and Alcohol Policy and is, therefore, subject to all terms of the Policy, including the random selection for drug testing.
