University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy: Postdoctoral Position Available
The team of Dr. Aaron Devanathan, PharmD, PhD, AAHIVP in the School of Pharmacy (https://www.pharmacy.pitt.edu/people/aaron-s-devanathan) is seeking candidates for a 2-year funded postdoctoral position to study antiretroviral clinical pharmacology. The main research focus of the Devanathan laboratory includes the clinical pharmacology of antiretrovirals and their disposition into cells, body fluids, and tissues. Our goal is to understand how inflammatory processes associated with comorbidities affect their pharmacology and to train future independent researchers and/or faculty members with a solid foundation in clinical pharmacology in the HIV/AIDS research space.
To achieve the long-range goal of our research program to understand this important clinical pharmacology intersection, we utilize novel quantitative analytical techniques, sophisticated multi-omics methods, and pharmacometrics analyses. These multipronged, tech-forward approaches will help us holistically understand these areas and help vulnerable populations in Pittsburgh and beyond.
In the current project, the postdoctoral associate is expected to design approaches and analytical methods and coordinate with collaborators for sample analysis using analytical chemistry, immunology, and/or virology approaches. S/he will have ample opportunities to collaborate with small molecule, multiomics, and clinical collaborators.
The University of Pittsburgh is recognized as a global leader in HIV/AIDS research. The University of Pittsburgh is home to the Rustbelt Center for AIDS Research (CFAR) and numerous Health Sciences Core Research Facilities that are utilized to complete our projects. The University of Pittsburgh is also one of the sites for a NIDA Clinical Trials Node. Furthermore, the University of Pittsburgh is among a select few of universities that have six schools of the health sciences located on the same campus. The environment is incredibly rich in opportunities for learning as well as for translational and clinical research collaborations. The University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy ranks 5th among U.S. Schools of Pharmacy in terms of total research funding and total federal funding.
Postdoctoral Fellows will:
• Conduct and lead research with the objective to advance antiretroviral pharmacology research for those living with HIV or for those receiving antiretrovirals for the prevention of HIV.
• Be mentored by faculty members at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy and UPMC, the Clinical and Translational Science Institute, and the Rustbelt Center for AIDS Research
• Contribute to the scientific literature through scholarly activities including publications and presentations at scientific meetings.
• Assist in the writing of applications and scientific reports to funding organizations.
• Participate in the School of Pharmacy’s didactic programs by working actively with students and other learners in developing their research projects.
• Receive an annual stipend and health insurance.
Applicants should have a strong interest in HIV/AIDS, antiretrovirals, and drug metabolism/pharmacokinetics. Applicants should either possess a PharmD degree (PGY1 residency training preferred but not required) or be a final-year PharmD student with APPE experience related to HIV.
The applicant should have good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in an interdisciplinary team environment. S/he will be expected to work closely with individuals having varying experience levels (undergraduate, MS/Ph.D. students, PharmD students, and technicians). The applicant must be able to develop innovative projects, design hypothesis-driven experiments, develop new methods, interpret results independently, and maintain excellent documentation of the experiments performed and results obtained.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide scientific expertise in various research projects involving human subjects research while significantly contributing to the dissemination of research via conferences, platform presentations, and publications.
In addition to the competitive remuneration, the applicant will have opportunities to participate in professional and career development activities tailored for postdoctoral associates conducted by the University of Pittsburgh Office of Academic Career Development.
Eligible diversity candidates are encouraged to apply and will have opportunities to apply for NIH Diversity Supplements. Interested applicants must submit curriculum vitae, a cover letter describing their career and research goals, and a list of three professional references with contact information at join.pitt.edu, requisition number 25000058.
