What you will do

We are looking for an Operational Risk Manager to join our PGIM Operational Risk Management team which is part of PGIM Operations and Innovation’s group (O&I). This team is responsible for assessing and monitoring risks to PGIM O&I’s global business operations and for recommending and implementing risk controls that mitigate those risks. In addition to supporting PGIM O&I’s strategic business objectives by developing and maintaining effective and efficient risk management programs.

As an Operational Risk Manager, you will be responsible for executing on risk strategies related to PGIM O&I’s business operations. You will be part of a team responsible for ensuring that business and Operational Risks, when weighed against business opportunities, are well managed and acceptable.

This position can be based either of our office in Newark, New Jerse. Our organization follows a hybrid work structure where employees can work remotely and/ from the office, as needed, based on demands of specific tasks or personal work preferences. Working from the office is encouraged when working on tasks that require a high degree of collaboration.

What you can expect


  • Support business processes by reviewing, monitoring, and assessing the control environment for new and established products and activities.

  • Assist with executing all aspects of the Operational Risk Management Framework, including facilitating Risk and Control Self Assessments, documenting key risks and controls, developing action plans to address control gaps and providing effective challenge to the adequacy of controls.

  • Identify, researching, evaluate, and/or resolve risk issues impacting the business, including conducting control reviews or gap analysis for existing processes, as needed.

  • Establish and maintain relationships with Prudential and PGIM Risk Functions and PGIM Business and Functional Leaders including, but not limited to internal audit, legal, compliance, operations, and finance.

  • Analyze and report operational risk events, identifying root causes of control breakdowns, developing remediation plans, performing scenario analysis reviews.

  • Identify and ensure key risk indicators are developed and reported appropriately.

  • Serve as liaison between the Business and Internal Audit for engagements and tracking the resulting issues and action plans until effective closure.

  • Monitor, analyze and communicate emerging risks and trends.

  • Produce periodic risk reporting and analytics.

  • Understand Prudential’s Operational Risk Management policies and procedures to ensure compliance with the Operational Risk Management framework.

  • Assist with management and execution of various corporate programs, including but not limited to Vendor Risk Management, Business Continuity, and Privacy

What you will bring


  • Bachelor’s degree in related field.

  • A minimum of 5+ years of related work experience with at least 3 years within risk management, compliance, audit, or similar function within the institutional asset management business.

  • Broad product knowledge in the asset management industry including the trade lifecycle, product types and derivative instruments, and mandates; Familiarity with private and public asset classes.

  • Prior experience in operational process mapping and internal control design

  • Working knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley, Privacy, Vendor Management, and other regulatory requirements

  • Strong project management skills and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.

  • Strong analytical, critical thinking skills and solutions oriented.

  • Demonstrated track record of sound judgment and decision-making skills.

  • Ability to collaborate within a small team of risk professionals and effectively interact with all levels of management. Along with analytical mindset and ability to identify, assess and mitigate key risks and perform root cause analysis.

  • Ability to effectively influence, negotiate and drive change within an organization while retaining independence and having the ability to multi-task numerous deliverables.  

  • Highly ethical individual with strong moral compass who can effectively challenge management while partnering effectively with them to develop relationships.

  • Results-oriented individual who can transform strategy into action with strong oral/written communication skills.  

  • Ability to work independently, think outside the box, and demonstrate creativity and innovation.

  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to summarize and communicate complex issues effectively, both orally and in writing

  • Strong MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) skills required.

What will set you apart?


  • Prior working experience in investment management or Big4 audit or advisory is strongly preferred.

  • Experience using GRC systems, such as Archer or IBM OpenPages strongly preferred.

Note: Prudential is required by state specific laws to include the salary range for this role when hiring a resident in applicable locations. The salary range for this role is from $115,000 to $140,000 Specific pricing for the role may vary within the above range based on many factors including geographic location, candidate experience, and skills. Roles may also be eligible for additional compensation and/or benefits.
