The Higgins Hotel & Conference Center's name reflects the contributions of the extraordinary entrepreneur, Andrew Higgins, who designed and built over 20,000 boats in New Orleans that were used in every major amphibious assault of World War II.

Responsibilities



The Assistant Chief of Engineering is responsible for overseeing the hotel facility, monitoring and controlling parts and labor expenditures, and managing the department within budget. The responsibilities also include accurately forecasting expenses, preparing the annual department budget, and ensuring that department staff is trained in control procedures outlined by Internal Audit. It is crucial to select, train, and develop employees to deliver exceptional customer service by promptly responding to guest needs. This position requires a "hands-on" leadership approach and includes maintaining the entire hotel facility, interior operations, exterior landscaping, parking areas, building structure, mechanical, electrical, HVAC systems, hazard systems, life safety equipment, kitchen and laundry equipment, exercise equipment, pool/sauna upkeep, and other related equipment. Day-to-day management involves delegating work assignments, monitoring and controlling parts and labor expenditure, administering outside engineering vendor contracts, and keeping all records up to date to comply with brand quality assurance guidelines.



Qualifications





  • Read, write, speak and understand English fluently.

  • Hotel, institutional, HVAC systems experience of 3-5 years.

  • Refrigeration, HVAC certification.

  • Previous management experience of 2-4 years.

  • Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, life safety systems, preventative maintenance systems and all related engineering disciplines.

  • Budget management experience, cost control and financial responsibility experience.

  • Stationary engineering license required.

  • Information technology skills preferred

  • CPR certification.

  • Valid driver's license.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with public and other employees.

  • No employee will pose a direct threat to the health/safety of self or others.

  • Computer skills and administrative skills.
