Job Summary

The JTAC Instructor and M&S Facilitator provides instruction and training in the joint tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP's) used for controlling and integrating the broad spectrum of fires support and air power available to the Marine Air-Ground Task Force (MAGTF) and Joint Task Force (JTF) Commanders. This includes training, qualification, and designation of Joint Service Members as Battalion Air Officers (AOs), Forward Air Controllers (FAC), Joint Terminal Attack Controllers (JTAC), Joint Fires Observers (JFO), and Forward Air Controllers Airborne (FACA) personnel. Additionally, this role operates and facilitates instruction in the Combined Arms Virtual Environment (CAVE) simulator, the Deployable Virtual Training Environment (DVTE), and associated C2 Systems.


Specific Responsibilities

  • Operate the Combined Arms Virtual Environment simulator (CAVE), conducting tactical level simulation in the CAVE to support AO, FAC, JTAC, FAC (A), and JFO training.
  • Develop and conduct simulated and practical exercises to support Joint and Service-specific fires exercises (live and synthetic).
  • Assist the instructional staff in providing JTAC/FAC/AO/JFO/FSCC/SACC instruction and evaluation during live fire exercises.
  • Provide classroom instruction in joint and service-specific fires.
  • Configure the CAVE during active courses, including start-up, shut-down, day, and night operations.
  • Configure other devices (DVTE) and support interfaces and test systems.
  • Conduct operational checks of each trainer system prior to daily mission execution.
  • Develop synthetic launch configurations and debug computing environments for CAVE and DVTE prior to every training event.
  • Manage the model and simulation consoles and C2 interfaces for the CAVE and DVTE during hands-on training events to provide multi-dimensional tactical information that will foster decision-making by students in a synthetic environment.


Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree, required.
  • Possess extensive USMC instructor knowledge based on a background which includes one or more of the following instructor certifications/designations: FAC/JTAC Instructor, FAC/JTAC Evaluator, TACP Instructor, FAC (A) instructor, Air Combat Tactics Instructor (ACTI), WTI/TOP GUN Graduate, Night Systems Instructor (NSI), Fleet Readiness Squadron (FRS) Instructor.
  • Performed as an FAC/JTAC Instructor while serving on active duty.
  • Performed as a Fixed Rotary Wing Naval Aviator and Joint Terminal Attack Controller with a minimum of one-year operational experience in Close Air Support.
  • Extensive (100 hours) operating and technical knowledge on current version of CAVE/SAVT/CAVE.
  • Operating (100 hours) and technical knowledge of current Combined Arms Network (CAN) DVTE system.
  • Must be able to represent EWTGP at various conferences and meetings.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment

  • Garrison work environment including but not limited to:
  • Occasional extended working hours will be required.
  • Occasional field/tactical environments.
  • Schedule M-F 0600 to 1800a office environment.

Travel Requirements

  • CONUS travel may be required estimated to be up to Eight (8) times per year; expected trips include conferences, Course Content Review Boards (CCRBs), and work in a field environment in support of live fire training events.
