Operations serve the purpose of enhancing and encouraging student-to-student and student-to-faculty interactions and engagement.

We are searching for a skilled and innovative Food Service Manager to lead our dynamic team in creating exceptional culinary experiences within our college community. With a range of venues including the cafeteria, Espresso Bar, and catering, we are dedicated to providing high-quality food and beverages to our diverse campus population.Essential Functions


Strategic Leadership, Operational Oversight & Excellence

Oversee and execute a multifaceted food service operation, ensuring excellence in all aspects of daily operations, food purchasing, receiving, production, presentation, cleanliness, sanitation, and service. Develop and monitor menus and recipes, portion control, and cooking techniques to ensure consistency and excellence. Oversee purchase, use, and maintenance of kitchen facilities, equipment, and supplies. Collaborate closely with the Director of Events and Food Services to drive the success of our culinary offerings. Must be able to work nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.



Culinary Arts and External Partnerships

Provide holistic oversight of kitchen operations in the Bremer Student Center, collaborating with Culinary Arts program faculty for comprehensive college-wide Food Services management. Foster a strong partnership with the Culinary Arts program, serving as an effective practicum site for the program and sharing resources to optimize both education and operations, amplifying students' hands-on learning in food planning, preparation and serving. Collaborate strategically with external entities to enhance the learning experience for students while providing hands-on experience in planning, preparing, and serving food. Ensure the highest level of quality control for all food services.



Catering Excellence and Menu Development

Lead the development, execution, and expansion of our comprehensive catering division, catering to both on-site and off-site events. Play a key role in planning, coordinating, and executing food for the Resource center voucher plan and a food plan for the residence hall, consistently exceeding client expectations. Collaborate with the culinary team to develop innovative menus that align with client preferences and event themes.



Communicating Food Service & Catering Offerings

Develop and execute strategies to effectively communicate food service and catering options to the campus community. Engage in marketing efforts both internal and external to the college, showcasing the variety and quality of our offerings.



Team Management and Employee Development

Lead, hire, train, supervise, and evaluated the Food Service Supervisor and staff, overseeing operations in the cafeteria and Espresso Bar. Ensure a collaborative and respectful team culture. Provide training for new employees and students, and professional development opportunities for all employees. Supervise student employees, remaining informed of student development principles to provide effective guidance and support. Ensure employee performance appraisals are completed on a timely basis. Abide by and support all pertinent provisions of the collective bargaining agreement.



Guest Satisfaction and Student Development

Collaborate with student affairs, student government, and human resources to ensure that principles of customer service and student development, as well as student and employee needs, are incorporated into food service operations. Prioritize exceptional service recovery to address needs and concerns promptly and professionally.



Resource Management and Continuous Improvement


Efficiently manage resources, including inventory and staff scheduling, to meet anticipated business demands while adhering to labor cost objectives. Implement continuous improvement processes to enhance operational efficiency and effectiveness. Ensure that kitchen equipment is well-maintained and in optimal working condition. Maintain appropriate cleaning schedules for kitchen floors, mats, walls, hoods, other equipment, and food storage areas.



Financial Oversight

Oversee planning, budgeting, purchasing, ordering, and staffing of Food Services. Control food costs, operating expenses, and waste through effective procurement, storage procedures, and waste control measures. Contribute to the development of short and long-term business plans. Explore external funding opportunities and partnerships, including grants, to supplement the operational budget.



Regulatory Compliance

Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, maintaining a clean and sanitized kitchen environment. Develop a compliance program to train and develop employees in furtherance of compliance adherence. Implement preventative maintenance programs to uphold equipment functionality. Be knowledgeable of policies regarding personnel and administer prompt, fair, and consistent corrective action in coordination with Human Resources for violations of company policies, rules, and procedures.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications


  • Associate Degree in Culinary Arts or related field or equivalent experience

  • Five years of experience in Catering, Culinary Arts, restaurant, or hotel management.

  • Knowledge of fine dining techniques, marketing and promotion techniques, history, and future trends in the hospitality industry

  • Budgeting experience


  • Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with Point of Sale or other cash register software

  • Competence using Excel

  • Experience with Caterease or other catering software

    Terms of Employment

    This is a full-time exempt position scheduled to work Monday through Friday. The salary range for this position is $67,725 - $73,752 annually, which includes a generous benefits package that includes the following.
