Description: Job Summary

The Program Manager will implement existing K-12 programming and lead the development of additional youth STEM programming. The position will report to the Director, Community Engagement and Education in DICP and will work with a high degree of independence, exercise strong professional judgement and have a high capacity for innovation. The role requires an alignment with the HMS objective of ensuring the biomedical and healthcare fields reflect the diversity of our communities.

Position Description

Program Development and Implementation:

  • Leads the planning, implementation and evaluation existing DICP Youth Programs (for example, Hinton AP Biology Program and Project Success) to ensure high quality and impactful programming that is responsive to emerging needs, particularly for young people underrepresented in STEM. Responsible for implementing changes to improve programs.
  • Develop and implement additional STEM programming with the active participation of HMS faculty, trainees and students to increase the scope and reach of programs for young people in local communities, particularly in Boston and Cambridge.
  • Lead the recruitment, training and maintains oversight of HMS students and trainees who support educational outreach programs as temporary employees and volunteers. Provide oversight and direction to Co-op and work study students when required.
  • In consultation with the Director, develop program budgets and detailed project plans to ensure timely and effective program implementation.


Program Management:

  • In collaboration with the Director, cultivate and maintain strong communication and partnerships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders including HMS students, trainees and faculty, school personnel and non-profit partners. Serve as the key point of contact for select stakeholders.
  • Remain current with local and national trends in STEM education and youth development and ensure science programming. Under the direction of others engaged in science programming, ensure DICP programming aligns with relevant curricular frameworks and standards.
  • Oversee the DICP educational outreach teaching labs; including all equipment and supplies.
  • Manage the registration of student participants in DICP educational outreach programs and compliance with all Harvard policies and safety protocols.


Communication and Program Documentation:

  • Prepare and implement communication and in-person outreach strategies for student program recruitment.
  • Maintain detailed programming documentation to ensure program consistency and fidelity.
  • Maintain ongoing communication with key stakeholders and represent DICP at selected meetings as required.
  • Identify and disseminate additional educational and career resources to supplement science and health career learning.
  • Develop and implement strategies to ensure program alumni receive timely information on further educational and professional development opportunities.
  • Participate in DICP events and meetings as required.


The Program Manager will manage 5 temp student employees that work as lab assistant educators for our Hinton AP Biology Program.

Basic Qualifications

5+ years of experience in program management, administrative or related role. Higher education may count towards experience.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

  • Bachelor's degree required, preferably in education, science, or another field related to the role.
  • Demonstrated experience and enthusiasm for working with young people in programs that build skills and confidence, preferably in science and health careers. Master's degree a plus.
  • Experience teaching at K-12, undergraduate or graduate level preferred.
  • Experience in a science and/or health related setting a plus.
  • Very strong organizational skills with strong attention to detail and consistency in meeting deadlines.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills, as well as time management skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Experience with Qualtrics a plus.
