Job Description:

A successful Pharmacist in Charge (PIC) must be passionate about healthcare and want to make a difference in the lives of others while acting as a mission-driven catalyst to help Livingston Community Health deliver the best quality of care and excellent service to our patients and their families.

The PIC is responsible for oversight of all aspects of efficient and high-quality pharmacy operations at Livingston Community Health (LCH). The PIC assumes all responsibility for pharmacy services and is responsible for all drugs and distribution that meet the strictest of standards at all times. Ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The PIC requires extensive contact and interaction with the Executive Leadership Team, clinical staff, contractors, and vendors. Provides supervision of pharmacy staff.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance and Quality Assurance
Ensure all pharmacy operations comply with federal, state, and local laws, including FQHC-specific regulations.
Maintain licensure and certifications required for pharmacy operations, including 340B program compliance.
Develop and maintain policies and procedures for the safe and effective dispensing of medications.
Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to regulatory standards and address any deficiencies.
Pharmacy Operations Management
Oversee daily pharmacy operations, including staffing, inventory management, and workflow optimization.
Ensure timely and accurate dispensing of medications to patients, minimizing delays in care.
Manage the purchasing and inventory of medications, including those ordered under the 340B Drug Pricing Program.
Develop and monitor pharmacy performance metrics, ensuring continuous improvement.
Keep records of patient history and of all activities regarding medications.
Conduct quarterly internal audits on each clinic's in-house 340b-administered medications.
Staff Supervision and Development
Lead, train, and mentor pharmacy staff, including pharmacists, technicians, and support personnel.
Conduct regular staff meetings and provide performance evaluations.
Foster a collaborative and professional work environment.
Ensure staff compliance with LCH policies, procedures, and continuing education requirements.
Patient Care and Collaboration
Collaborate with providers and clinical teams to develop and implement treatment plans, ensuring optimal medication therapy management.
Provide patient education on medication usage, side effects, and adherence strategies.
Address patient concerns and resolve medication-related issues effectively.
Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings to align pharmacy services with organizational goals.
Listen carefully to customers to interpret their needs and issues and offer information and advice.
Review and execute physicians prescriptions checking their appropriateness and legality.
Prepare medicine when appropriate using correct dosages and materials for each individual patient.
Program Management and Development
Oversee the 340B Drug Pricing Program, ensuring compliance, maximizing cost savings, and supporting access to medications for underserved populations.
Develop and implement innovative programs to improve medication adherence and chronic disease management.
Stay informed on advancements in pharmacy practices and technologies to enhance service delivery.
Attends and actively participates in all meetings (e.g., department meetings, program meetings, staff meetings) and other activities as required or assigned.
Attends workshops/seminars as necessary to increase skills and knowledge to provide effective care, treatment, and/or leadership.
Supports the overall needs of the health clinics by working flexible or extended hours when necessary.
Demonstrates competence with the mission, vision, and values of the organization to provide quality healthcare to those served in the community.
Other work-related duties as assigned. Duties and responsibilities may be added, deleted, or changed at any time at the direction of leadership, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education and Experience:
Graduate of an accredited School of Pharmacy. Additional schooling in healthcare administration is preferred.
Minimum of 3-5 years of demonstrated experience in a clinic or hospital providing leadership and oversight in a Pharmacy setting.
Experience working in an FQHC or similar healthcare setting is preferred.
License/Certification -
Poses a valid drivers license
Must possess a current California Board of Pharmacy license in good standing
Certification or expertise in 340B program management is preferred.
Basic Life Support (BLS) - American Heart Association - certification required
Current Vaccinations required for Healthcare Workers
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities -
Strong knowledge of federal and state pharmacy regulations, including 340B program requirements.
Excellent leadership, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficient in pharmacy management systems and electronic health records (EHR).
Ability to work collaboratively in a team-based care model.
Commitment to serving underserved populations and addressing health disparities.
Ability to effectively facilitate meetings and presentations.
Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to provide effective guidance and training to subordinates supporting their success.
