Position Overview

A successful Medical Assistant must be passionate about healthcare and want to make a difference in the lives of others while acting as a mission-driven catalyst to help Livingston Community Health deliver the best quality of care and excellent service to our patients and their families.

The Medical Assistant (MA) reports directly to the Back Office Supervisor (BOS). The MA provides nursing assistance to multi-specialty LCH clinical providers including, but not limited to, administration of injections, assisting with procedures, taking vital signs, vision and hearing tests, patient education, and necessary EHR chart work. The Medical Assistant will assist with clerical functions and help update and maintain accurate medical records. The Medical Assistant is under the general supervision of the Registered Nurse, and direct supervision of the Back Office Supervisor.

Essential Functions, Duties, and Responsibilities

*The Part Time Medical Assistant position is for evening shifts.

Provide quality customer service care with a positive attitude.
Ensure patient demographics are current and accurate at time of visit.
Obtain and document vital signs in the electronic health record:

IE: blood pressure, temperature, pulse, respiration, height, weight, Oxygen Saturation
(if indicated), pain level, last menstrual period.

Follow LCH's Patient Intake workflow based on type of visit.
Perform required screening tests as necessary.

IE: vision test, hearing test, etc.

Reconcile allergy list, medication list and problem list at every visit.
Complete with accuracy via EHR: social history, family history, medical/surgical history, preventative medical information (last pap, mammogram, colorectal screening), chronic care information (last HgA1c, labs, test.)
Assist clinical staff with examination procedures.
Utilize Standing Orders to administer, order or schedule tests, medication or referrals.
Administer medications and immunizations per LCH policies and procedures.
Update patient charts with accurate data: immunization history and lab results.
Complete lab orders as indicated.
Clean and sterilize medical instruments and equipment per LCH policy and procedures.
Utilize tracking system for pap smears, immunization, and breast exams.
Perform procedures as ordered by provider (wound care, application of splints, airway treatment, ear lavages, EKG, NST and sterile procedures as indicated.)
Ensure accurate and complete documentation in electronic health records
Continuously monitor patient flow.
Prepare forms to fulfill Payer, State and Federal requirements.
Adhere to and promote clinic policies and protocols.
Review EHR and Outlook Inbox daily and address tasks within 24 hours.
Conduct daily, weekly and monthly quality controls and checks
Facilitate support with daily, weekly and monthly inventory (i.e. medications, vaccines and clinic supplies.)
Ensure adherence with clinic safety requirements both in practice and maintaining facilities.
Maintain patient privacy in accordance with HIPAA.
Perform and maintain autoclave protocols (i.e. weekly maintenance, monthly spore testing, and log of each cycle.)
While rooming the patient, the MA will ask the patient for any completed forms given to them by the Front Office (i.e. Asthma Control Test, SHA, SOGI, etc.)

Review daily Quality huddle report and administer missing patient metrics at time of visit.
Complete appropriate handoff/referral for health education.
Provide clinical support at other LCH Sites, as required.
Other duties and projects as assigned.


Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Education -

Medical Assistant Certificate of completion from certified school.
High school graduate or GED Certificate.
Bilingual, English/Spanish preferred.
Current BLS CPR Certification.
