The Communications Manager will produce multimedia content that raises awareness of the Flood Hub and supports its strategic goals. As a primary content generator for the Flood Hub, the incumbent will develop well-researched, factually accurate, and compelling written/visual products for internal and external audiences. The successful candidate will play a key role in publicizing and promoting the Flood Hub's latest science and research activities to local, regional, and national stakeholders.
Located at the University of South Florida's College of Marine Science on the St. Petersburg campus, the Florida Flood Hub for Applied Research and Innovation (Flood Hub) is the State of Florida's center for flood data, serving as a premier thought leader on flooding research and helping Florida prepare for the reality of rising sea levels, stronger storms, and more extreme rainfall events. The Flood Hub is envisioned to be a one-stop-shop for all local, regional, and government agencies to incorporate flood planning as part of a long-term strategy for smarter infrastructure and policies that reflect Florida's risks.
Duties:
Minimum Qualifications:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in communication, marketing, public relations, technical writing, digital media, or related field, with 4 years of experience in related positions; or a Master's degree in the fields listed above and 2 years of experience.
FLSB1310 Equivalency:
4 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for bachelor's degree.
6 years of directly relevant experience may be substituted for master's degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
Well-developed skills writing about complex topics for general audiences. The ideal candidate will have experience in social media and science communication, particularly in creating multimedia content about marine science, and working with subject matter experts at scientific research institutions. Basic photography skills are expected; advanced skills in photography, videography, and graphic design are desired but not required.
