Description: Our client is currently seeking a Materials Sourcing Engineer to be responsible for identifying suppliers to drive new product development (NPD) including assessing current end-to end sourcing operations, implementing process improvements to ensure value-add and aligned sourcing activity, supplier relationship management, negotiations, new supplier & materials development and risk mitigation. This is a fully remote position with about 35% travel & reports to the Vice President of Global Sourcing with a strong dotted line reporting to the Director, Global Research & Development. There are no direct reports to this position. This person needs to be fluent in Mandarin as they will be interfacing with suppliers in China regularly.

This job will have the following responsibilities:
Find high-quality suppliers with existing capabilities in coating, materials, and components.
Identify future suppliers; identify companies that are introducing innovative technologies and facilitate connections with the innovation team.
Connect the industrial design and development team with supplier partners.
Drive strategic supplier initiatives including supplier selection, development, consolidation, and platforming methodologies.
Develop and maintain a good understanding and knowledge of current materials, products, and markets and their potential impact on company performance globally.
Work closely with internal customers/stakeholders to understand priorities, timing, and strategy of key business requirements.
Collaborate and communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders to ensure all sourcing and engineering expectations are fulfilled.
Work closely with Compliance to ensure all suppliers maintain the expected standards.
Qualifications & Requirements:
Minimum of 5-7 years of materials engineering experience with an emphasis on colors and finishes.
Experience supporting New Product Development (NPD) through sourcing / validating components needed for mass production
Bachelors degree in Mechanical Engineering or Materials Science Engineering.
Appropriate technical understanding of colors, materials, and finishes to make viable sourcing recommendations to the organization.
Knowledge of strategic sourcing methodologies & category management and excellent negotiation skills.
Proven project management and communication skills.
Must be fluent in both Mandarin and English.
