This Category Associate position is a beginning buyer role.
Department-Specific Responsibilities
Initiates and creates university contracts for Professional Services (PRO) on a university-wide basis.
Reviews proposed information technology contracts and may involve assisting with the preparation of Requests for Proposal (RFP) and Requests for Quotes (RFQ)s, as well as negotiates terms and conditions of the contracts with suppliers and departments to include budget, forms, expense sharing (e.g., travel) and other supporting documents.
Tracks, monitors, and takes actions regarding the status of RF(x) and of contracts in the review and amendment process as required.
Maintains complete documentation necessary to meet audit requirements and will have oversight and BUY.IU approval authority for orders up to $50,000.
General Responsibilities
Places purchase orders and approves procurement invoices to procure supplies and services for department or operational area; may secure cost savings through price negotiation.
Analyzes prices of current and potential vendors and makes recommendations on new vendors based on departmental needs.
Acts as a liaison between university departments and vendors.
Responds to employee inquiries and requests and explains policies and procedures.
Monitors procurement processes and determines how to correct issues; independently corrects basic issues.
May provide assistance to Procurement Assistants.

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires the ability to effectively communicate and to operate a computer and other standard office productivity equipment. The position involves sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

This position is eligible to work a hybrid schedule (mix between remote and in-person work), subject to change in the future based on university policy and business needs.
