Job Summary/Basic Function:
The Assistant Director/ Coordinator for the Lyons Student Employment Program will counsel students and supervisors who utilize the college’s student employment program. Maintain a database of all student employment job opportunities in Handshake. Create and execute a Financial Literacy Program for the college by holding in-person and virtual campus workshops for the Wheaton community. The Assistant Director/Coordinator will report to the Director for Experiential Education and External Engagement in developing holistic learning outcomes for the student employment experience and serve as a member of the Life and Career Design Institute team.

Learning Outcomes and Collaboration Across Campus (50%):
  • Develop learning outcomes in collaboration with supervisors in creating job descriptions.
  • Responsible for the development of training for supervisors on applicable college policies, student development, and experiential learning strategies.
  • Oversight of the student employment applications and paperwork within Handshake.
  • Create an employment handbook for students and supervisors.
  • Work with supervisors on corrective actions for student employees.
  • Oversight of the student employment fair.
  • Develop assessment tools to evaluate the effectiveness of the program and what students are learning.
Administrative Support (15%):
  • Collaborate with Student Financial Services and Human Resources to review students RWAF’s, I9’s, and W4’s.
  • Collaborate with Student Financial Services in auditing student employment positions across campus.
Financial Literacy Programming (20%):
  • Create and execute a Financial Literacy program with different modules geared towards different class levels (first-years, sophomores, juniors, seniors, grad students) through the Life and Career Design Institute’s student education rubric.
Funding Support (15%):
  • Manage and process all stipends, including summer, merit and internship opportunities.

Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor. This may include attendance of and participation in required training for the role.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • The Coordinator for the Lyons Student Employment Program must possess superior counseling skills to work with students and supervisors around employment opportunities on and off campus.
  • Organizational skills are important when administering stipend usage and payment.
  • Creativity and energy are needed to create and execute financial literacy programming.
  • This position requires strong communication and organizational skills as well as a demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with students, faculty and staff across campus.
  • Intermediate level of proficiency working in Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word)
  • Intermediate level of proficiency in managing databases.
  • Experience with CORI/SORI software, web page editing.


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree in college student personnel administration, higher education administration, or a related area OR 1-2 years of professional or graduate level experience professionally within a higher education setting preferred.

When determining and establishing hiring rates or recruitment ranges for a position, the College considers a number of factors including the budget for the position, the range of the grade, the external market for the position or similar positions, level and scope of responsibilities, required education, skills and relevant experience as well as internal equity. All salary offers must have the prior approval of the Office of Human Resources.

The anticipated hiring or recruitment range for this position is $50,000-$55,000.
