Job Summary / Basic Function:


Job Summary:The Director of Safety's job responsibilities include, but are not limited to, planning and coordinating the security operations for Lamar Institute of Technology and successfully implementing the overall security strategy, policies and procedures to ensure the physical safety of all students, employees and visitors to the campus' facilities and the security of LIT property and assets. This position oversees LIT's security department, including third party employees, and any other related security initiatives including The Clery Act compliance. This is an exempt, staff appointment and reports to the Executive Director of Campus Safety.

Duties/Responsibilities:


  • Establishes operational plans for crisis response, workplace violence (including active shooter), evacuation, and other emergency events

  • Implements and delivers operational plan training (initial and ongoing) to Faculty and Staff

  • Manages and maintains systems, alarms and other physical security measures

  • Oversees parking operations

  • Reviews, suggests revisions, maintains, and implements LIT's security policies and procedures

  • Conducts regular audits and inspections to assess, identify and mitigate any security vulnerabilities or gaps; recommends and implements solutions accordingly

  • Leads and directs significant investigations and critical event responses

  • Coordinates with LUPD and local law enforcement and safety staff as required to support investigations

  • Drafts and submits reports and work orders related to security operations

  • Participates in TSUS, local, state and/or federal advisory groups to keep abreast of all security-related information, directives and events

  • Delivers education programs, training and communications on security policies and topics to help equip others to manage potential security issues

  • Serves and leads (as applicable) on all relevant committees as related to safety and security of the College

  • Serves as LIT's Clery Coordinator

  • Perform other related duties, as needed





Physical Requirements:This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine; and frequently move throughout facilities and campus (including outdoors).
Minimum Qualifications:



  • 60 college hours, with completion from Texas Peace Officer's Accredited Academy

  • 10 year of police work experience as a Texas Peace Officer, including at least years as a supervisor

  • Master Texas Peace Officer License in good standing

  • Corporate security experience, including as least 5 years a supervisor

  • Extensive knowledge of security operations

  • Excellent management, analytical, problem-solving and communication skills

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite


Preferred Qualifications:



  • Experience in higher education

  • Bachelor's degree in Law Enforcement, Criminal Justice or related field

  • Advanced training or certification in security

  • Successfully completed IS 100, IS 200, ICS 300, ICS 400, IS 700, IS 800 FEMA Training Courses


Salary:

Commensurate
