POSITION SUMMARY
Works under the supervision of the Site Supervisor as a field representative on inspections, testing, and maintenance of low-voltage fire alarm systems at Fort Belvoir, Virginia. Performs maintenance, inspection, and testing of fire suppression and sprinkler systems, including testing of Backflow Prevention devices.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
Provide inspection, testing, and maintenance for fire alarms, mass notifications, and fire suppression/sprinkler systems.
Complete records of all repairs and inspections performed.
Identify and report deviations from established fire/mass notification/Fire suppression/sprinkler requirements.
Test communications, alarm equipment, and backup systems to ensure serviceability.
May be required to work various shifts as assigned by supervisor, including days, evenings, swing shifts, graveyards, weekends, and holidays.
Respond to fire/mass notification or suppression/sprinkler system service calls and routine system maintenance calls.
Inspect fire alarms, suppression/sprinkler systems, and their components to evaluate conditions, identify necessary repairs, and recommend preventive maintenance.
Request equipment and supplies to maintain inventory and ensure availability of items required to complete the necessary installation and/or repair.
Perform system modifications as necessary.
Conduct testing and inspecting systems.
Respond and carry out any troubleshooting and repairs to completion.
Must be able to identify code and non-conformance issues.
Make recommendations regarding both systems installations and service contract work.
Report daily on activities completed, deferred, or requiring further action or material.
Maintain compliance with established departmental policies and government regulations and directives.
Provide customer service and care as required professionally.
Always maintain a professional appearance and confidentiality.
Perform all other position-related duties as assigned or requested.
EDUCATION/TRAINING
High School diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE
Must have a high school diploma, equivalent, technical training, and electrical background.
NICET Level I and II certification in Fire Alarm Systems is strongly preferred.
Kingfisher certified training and state of Virginia Backflow Preventer Certification.
A minimum of 3 years of experience as a fire alarm installer or service technician.
The candidate must be proficient and experienced in troubleshooting fire alarm systems, wiring, and ground faults.
Kingfisher, Monaco, Honeywell EBI FS90/FS90, EST3, and Notifier certifications or experience are a plus.
Prior experience working on government contracts or military bases is preferred.
Experience with fire suppression systems such as CO2 and wet/pre-action fire sprinkler systems preferred.
SKILLS/ABILITIES
Basic computer skills include MSOffice - Outlook, Work, and Excel
Strong verbal and writing skills are required for communication with clients, management, and staff.
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to reason and solve problems.
Ability to develop work schedules, including 24/7 shift work.
Ability to coordinate, prioritize, and schedule work assignments.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling up to 50 pounds.
Generally, the job requires 15% sitting, 40% walking, and 45% standing.
High noise levels are expected with general maintenance.
Must have the ability to maintain assigned work hours.
Must have sufficient endurance to perform tasks over long periods.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Limited physical accommodation is available.
This role requires work in office and non-office settings such as machinery rooms, electrical distribution centers, server rooms, and industrial locations.
Work requires exposure to heat/cold, noise, dust, mist, and/or fumes.
Requires the ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
Requires wearing personal protective equipment such as a COVID-19 mask, safety glasses, fall protection harness, protective-toe footwear, gloves, hard hat, and hearing protection.
Work hazards include electrical shock, confined spaces, and noise hazards.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Valid driver’s license in the state of employment with an acceptable driving record
Ability to pass a pre-employment background screening and drug test.
Must complete all mandated training requirements per government and management directives.
Must obtain a favorable National Agency Check (NAC) per contract.
Must be a legal U.S. Resident per contract.
Must be able to communicate clearly in the English Language per contract.
