Position Summary: The Vegetation Supervisor implements, maintains, and manages a comprehensive Right-of-Way (ROW) Vegetation Management Program to provide efficient, reliable, and safe electrical service.
Essential Functions:
In an efficient and professional manner:
Assist in developing a comprehensive Right-of-Way (ROW) Vegetation Management Program. Implement, maintain, and manage the Program, assuring compliance with vegetation management regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
Responsible for ensuring that the vegetation management program achieves the annual "miles of line cleared", or unit goals.
Supervise tree trimming crews, who are in the process of right-of-way clearing, right-of-way reclaiming, and other vegetation maintenance.
Establish and maintain professional working relationships with members, property owners, contractors, governmental agencies, and others with whom interactions may be necessary during the course of performing vegetation management duties.
Notify and communicate with property owners about tree trimming, removal, and other work to be performed.
Disseminate and explain regulations regarding new plantings in rights of way to members, landscapers, and community nurseries.
Work with members regarding specific tree trimming or removal of trees on their properties and manages member concerns and complaints related to the vegetation management program.
Perform duties in a manner that promotes and maintains good public relations.
Inspect distribution and/or transmission circuit ROW to assess vegetation conditions and determine required maintenance activities.
Research easement and land rights for widths, rights, and restrictions.
Prescribe work to be performed and determine future ROW maintenance requirements.
Identify and record local tree species and growth rates within and near transmission and distribution rights-of-way (ROW).
Use computers and associated software to perform duties.
Maps circuits and enters tree trimming and tree and brush removal prescriptions into hand-held computer or other similar systems in a timely manner.
Work with mapping department to keep up to date records in the Mapping system including: the location and number of trees per circuit, identifying tree replacement contract locations, identifying refusals that will trigger future charges to members, and up-to-date vegetation management records of miles of line that have been cleared.
Obtain Tree Replacement Contracts from property owners and permits from public agencies as needed or required.
Record tree replacement contracts with the proper authorities at the appropriate courthouses.
Function as a liaison between vegetation management and Site management.
Schedule ROW maintenance needs and oversee the contract to assure their work meets program specifications.
Manage work requests and electronically tracks work progress.
Audit tree trimming and tree removal work completed in the field, completes post-audit reports indicating adequacy of the work, and updates mapping system as appropriate with photos, miles of line cleared, etc.
Assist the Communications Department in developing a ROW Vegetation Management Communication Plan.
Participate in public presentations and meetings as needed or required.
Assist in storm and emergency situations and other miscellaneous line clearance projects.
Responsible for submitting and controlling budget needs for all areas of responsibility.
Train subordinates to attainable levels; review and determine performance of subordinates; recommend wage and salary adjustments to the Operations Manager in accordance with company policies and in support of company values and objectives.
Responsible for planning and implementing necessary employee training within the Operations Department.
Readily join storm restoration efforts in times of need.
Other Requirements:
Must have knowledge and understanding of principles and practices of hazard tree assessment and management; common vegetation management techniques; tree biology and pruning; emergency management/storm response and vegetation management.
Must have knowledge and understanding of electrical distribution and transmission system operation and hardware.
Must maintain and apply a working knowledge of company, ANSI A300, ANSI Z133, and OHSA 1910.269(r).
Must develop and maintain proficient computer skills with Microsoft Office products such as Outlook, Excel, and Word as well as with specific vendor product programs.
Must communicate effectively, verbally and in writing, in a diverse range of audiences and settings.
Requires the ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships with both internal and external contacts.
Must be able to negotiate to successfully resolve conflicts and problems.
Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
Bilingual (Spanish / English) a plus.

Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.
